After retiring from the Hawks last season, newly appointed Assistant Coach John Barker is settling in at St Kilda.

“It has been really good. We are planning for the pre-season and I am getting know what my role is and what the Club’s expectations are” Barker said.

Along with other Assistants, Anthony Rock and Stephen Silvagni, Barker has taken on his new role with the support of his new colleagues. “I played with Rocky at Hawthorn and with Ross at Fitzroy, so there is a degree of familiarity” he said.

Working as the attacking coach for the Saints, Barker is looking forward to spending time with the St Kilda forwards. “I’m looking forward to working with the likes of Nick Riewoldt and Fraser Gehrig and implementing systems and structures” Barker said.

With football just around the corner, Barker is focused on players preparing for the new season. “It is important for the boys to get a good pre-season under their belt” he said.

With a restructured football department, 2007 is sure to be a promising year for all involved at the St Kilda Football Club.

St Kilda Football Club is pleased to announce that Danny Sexton has been appointed Development Coach.

Sexton comes to the Club with extensive coaching and playing experience. He has had seven years playing at Port Melbourne in the VFL and was a VFL Representative. Following his playing career he then coached for three years at senior level Diamond Valley Division 1. Sexton has recently been coaching in the Calder Cannons U/16 and U/18 development programs before being Head Coach at the Northern Knights for one year in 2006.

Sexton has also had 11 years of teaching experience with the last three years as VCE coordinator at Essendon Keilor College where he developed a very successful football development program, which enabled young footballers to make the most of their academic and football abilities.

With his background he seems like the perfect candidate for the Development Coach role.

He won't have a role on match day so it appears that he'll spend all of his time mentoring our youngsters and providing a link between St Kilda and the Casey Scorpions.

Smart appointment.

Fantastic appointment. He is working his way up through the ranks very swiftly. Having played under Sekko, i've no doubt he'll do a terrific job. A great teacher and motivator.
