Teague keen on coaching role

NORTHERN Bullants coach David Teague has expressed interest in one of the vacant assistant coaching roles at Carlton.

The former Carlton best and fairest winner is already on the Blues’ payroll in a development role as well as coach of their VFL affiliate, who will line up in its second consecutive grand final on Sunday.

Teague, who has coached the Bullants for the past three years, says he is interested in pursuing an assistant coaching role, potentially at the Blues.

“It’s the next step in the progression. My next big goal is to coach AFL football at senior level and to get there I have to look at what the best avenue is,” he told afl.com.au.

Has taken a 3rd and 6th placed Bullants to back to back grand finals, and has beaten the top team every year at some stage in the past 2 (maybe 3) years.

I think it was to coincide with the end of Ratten's contract.

Correct. Any new coach (if Ratts isnt offered an extension) ought to have the right to choose his own assistants. So as Ratts has not yet secured an extension then none of the assistants can have a longer gig that Ratts has left.

I would assume that any prospective appointment will only get a 1 year gig. Might cause a few to take longer contracts elsewhere.
