It is no secret that Melbourne will be looking at a new captain if not next year but the year after and it will be interesting to see who will be chosen especially with a new coach at the helm....Brock Mclean seems to be one of the favourites, mine personally...but he is still young...some people believe that this is the way to go...some people believe that the likes of Brad Green and Cameron Bruce, as good as they are, have lost their chance at a club that is looking for a captain to be leading for a number of years---has anyone heard who the captain will be? who is the favourite at this stage to take over the legendary DN in the next couple of years?

McLean's end to the year threw some doubt over him for me, in the short term at least, needs to get his body right, Neitz alluded to that very fact on Footy Classified.

I think let Neitz go on for one more year then hand it on to Brock.

Otherwise, the only other person I would accept would be Green, not Bruce please.

If Bailey brings in a rotating captaincy, I won't buy a membership next year, biggest pile of crap in football that.

haha You will so buy a membership!

On the captaincy thing, I'd have to agree Brock could be a bit young yet so give It to Green.

Brock will get it but I'm worried it could bring some added pressure to him, at a stage where he's already recieveing quite a lot.

Neita came out at one point saying Junior would be the best to take his spot next year. I'll take that. Junior for one year and Brock (if he's ready in '09) to take it after him.

I'd expect the little number 2 to try and take down brockys spot as future captain

and dont forget jared rivers

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Chunk is gonna get some serious tagging next year, much like Brock has this year. I can believe that he'd want the captaincy eventually, but I wouldn't be jumping on Jones for captain just yet.

I agree with this concept. James McDonald is definately a leader and for so long now he has worked tirelessly for not enough recognition. He deserves it. Give it to him for a year or two then see if Brock is still in the running for captain, or maybe somebody like Bell, Rivers or Jones for instance may have stepped up to be in the running for captain and we can work it out then. I agree with everyone else, the rotating captaincy is an absolute joke and is something that happens at 10 y/o junior football, not at the ellite level. It completely defeats the whole idea of having a captain.

He has been in and out with injury ffs

Really dumb thing to say

...keep neitz on if he still wants it but if he does give it away then i would say james mcdonald, cameron bruce or jeff white for a year or two

We are entering a new era with the club. Let's enter it with a player who can lead us through it. Brock for me. It isn't as if he'd be on his own as we'd still have Junior, Neitz, Robbo, Green, Bruce etc to help but he does have captain written all over him.

Get Davey into the leadership group. He can be all over the group and his tackles from nowhere will fire up the team. Neita kicks the captains goal from outside 50, Davey kicks the captains goal from the boundary line looking away from goals.

In all seriousness Daniher said that Davey has great leadership qualities and could be a captain of an AFL side one day. I think next year the captain should be Green or Junior, with the other one plus Chook, Rivers and Davey in the leadership group.

You would want to get thier bodies right first before you thrust them into the leadership group, chook, davey and rivers all missed pretty descent portions of the season, and in Daveys case, when he was in he wasnt that consistent

why are we having this coversation?

Its a forgone conclusion............Brock McLean is the next Melbourne captain.

The guy oozes leadership and he's a commanding physical presence unlike the weasels like Bruce and the ice skater Green

TJ is GOD you sure aren't a fan of Bruce and Green, your back today since your last posts in March and your not holding back on them. I think you are being particularly harsh on Green, hes shown some good leadership this year and some hardness, bit unlike the man you claim is GOD.

Master Bate I may not be the president of the Bruce/Geen supporter club and for good reason.

For me Bruce doesnt stamp himself on the game enough and cant handle the physical pressure.

Green always falls over its like the MCG is an ice staking ring. He cant stand up in the tackle and keep his feet. Plus he doesnt play on anyone. I can pick up 30 touches a game if I dont play on anyone.

By keeping these guys and paying them the big bucks we show that we are steeped in mediocrity in accepting that these guys are the way to a flag.

The Melbourne Football Club attitude for the past decade has been near enough is good enough.

The likes of Brock McLeana nd Nathan Jones are the new generaton that are fearless and relentless in their desire for ultimate success.

These are the men to change the culture at the club.
