I have to disagree on this.

I think it's been good for our young riders in their development before hitting Europe.

Simon Gerrans is a good example of how it has helped springboard him into performing well in the OS classics.

Hopefully once we get an Aussie team in the ToF well use this race as a testing ground to locate and develop new talent from.

just to reinforce one of my points from the suggestions board......cycling is increasing in popularity significantly, its starting to dominate the general sports board and armstrongs return will only enhance the interest in the sport.

The Olympic cycling thread got pretty good traffic through it for the entirety of the cycling program as well.

Over a whole season of racing Cycling would get more traffic through it than say the Baseball(of which I am one of the few who post there).

It's just that the major classics are all over and the season is winding down.

With it's own board whoever the moderator was could set up a rider transfer sticky to be updated when riders switch teams.

They could also sticky race event results to keep a track of who won on what day and overall leaders etc

Gee this new prefix is a life saver. I had no idea where to post about cycling before this. Cannot believe there is no cycling board though. Surely there is more interest in cycling than sports like Fishing, Baseball, Ice Hockey, Combat Sports and even Tennis for that matter.

Its a protour race in Australia that has had Simoni, Luis Sanchez, Pieri and other legends of the sport racing in the middle of summer.


Ive been 3 times and it is awesome, awesome,awesome. Ride some of the best rides in Oz in the morning and watching the race without the huge crowds in the arvo. Geez, last year i walked up to Miguel Indurain and had a chat and a photo unimpeded and he is one of the GOAT.

You're probably not going to get a cycling board for a month or so, if the traffic at the time warrants it.

If you have friends who are into cycling, point them this way. At the moment there's probably more netball posts in total than cycling posts across multiple threads

If you pad out this board with threads that get less than half a dozen responses then it isn't going to be taken seriously.

the problem with the Cycling board idea is that Cycling is a sport MOST people only follow when there is an event on television to watch.

Well...it's the same with any sport really.

Not too many people follow the sport outside of television interest - such as the TDF in July and Olympic Games.


Also guys: at 11am this Sunday is the Paris-Brussels Pro Tour race on SBS.

don't forget to watch that one.

Well to drum up some support and make others aware of a potential cycling forum we could place an inhouse advertisement in other forums alerting people to the proposal put forth by Chief.

That way if there are other cycling fans who dont know there's discusions going on they can be directed to here.
