Fremantle and Peel strengthen partnership

The Fremantle Football Club and Peel Thunder Football Club have extended their partnership, which will see their WAFL arrangement continue to flourish until at least the end of 2029.

Yeh, for all the extra cost & travelling, I can't see the value in going to a national reserves competition.

Both Freo & Peel benefit from the alignment and I think they alignment has been good since Garlic & JLo have been involved.

I think things were a bit strained while Ross & Rosich were there. Much more amicable now.

There is a WAFL group that I am a member of and there are many that never stop moaning about the alignment.

Good to hear it's certainly been helpful for both teams - Freo players get to play together in a competent WAFL team and peel get 3 flags and counting

I think the angst is fair to be honest, Freo are either a very strong side and the spillover makes for a great Peel team or else Freo get bundled out of finals and chuck everyone into the Peel team and skate away with the WAFL premiership.

It's completely fair, standalone WAFL clubs end up facing 15 AFL players in finals.

I actually don't know what the solution is – nationally – because there's a lot of value in strong, resilient state leagues, particularly the WAFL and SANFL where it's completely tied to the junior system. it's a very nice, simple escalation ladder from suburban or country clubs to their zoned WAFL club to the AFL. and it's worth protecting the history and vibrancy you can get at games like the Fremantle Derby.

But a national reserves comp will be too expensive and I feel like most sides will end up like the Eagles WAFL side where no one wants to be a top up because you've got no certainty and there's complications in playing for your own club. the VFL at the moment is a wreck.

It would be hard for the guys outside of Peel's ten best non-AFL players. They're effectively relying on Freo to get hit by injuries to play WAFL seniors.

I would be more sympathetic if the peel ressies side wasn't terrible.
