Did we pick up any pace in the off season in the draft and PSD or rookie draft? I think one thing we really lack across most lines especially onball, although we have good talent in there Brocky, Jones, (Moloney when fit), Bruce, Green and the like don't have lots of out and out pace.

Alot of very similar style players for mine, besides Brucey and Green.

Will be interesting to see how much onball work Davey gets.

Maric is fast but is a crumbing forward, same deal with Austin. But with the Mid's i can only think of Cale Morton having a bit of toe but has more endurance than pace

No,Morton is very very quick i wouldn't say Wonaeamirri is a crumbing forward because he plays most of his footy running out of the back line also Valenti is super quick(you have to be at his height) :D

Valenti isn't on our list mate.

I thought the same thing about pace, perhaps Wonaeamirri (sp?) has been recruited for that role.

I have a feeling the club wants to mould Morton into the same style player as Pavlich, a big forward who can pinch hit in the middle.

Morton uses his long stride to make space but I wouldn't say he has great pace, handy but not great. No way he will ever be a power forward, he's an outside flanker who is about the best field kick in the last couple of drafts but he is not a strong mark but can surprise on occasion and will never be an inside midfielder. He is going to be Andrew Mackie with a few more tricks up his sleeve.

Grimes, massive beep test and handy pace but I doubt you will see him breaking the lines

both run about a 2.97-2.99 20m time so no snails but a much more noted for endurance (both well over 15 on the beep test)

Maric runs about 3.10 20m time so not fast, just really really efficent in his movement which helps because he only runs about an 11 in the beep test.

Dangerfield and Cotchin are the only ones really in the top 20 with onfield pace to make note of

I know Valenti isn't on our main list(i never said he was) either is Wonaeamirri but i was just saying that they are very fast :thumbsu:

Andrew Mackie??? please... he will initially be more like Cam Bruce but with better footskills.. then in years to come we will try and put a bit of muscle on the kid so by say 23-24 he could possible play as a key position. If not he will remain this type of player... Andrew mackie?? what a joke!!!

hopefully by then he may have put on a few more cm's and kg's on, keeping in mind he is a bottom age player and only 17 so he might have a bit of height growth in him.

Does Cale have to complete yr 12 in 2008?

Andrew Mackie is a bloody good player. If Cale turned out to be as good as him then i would be mildy content, I expect him to do a lot better though.

I dont believe so but not exactly sure, I thought I can remember reading he played at lot of school footy and completed year 12. Not positive though.
He turns 18 this January.

Mackie is okay but for a number 4 pick and a player that some recruiters thought could be a number 1 in most years, I expect a much better player than Mackie.

i'm almost certain he has finished school :thumbsu:

I noticed something about our top 3 picks, they seem to replace our older midfielders that we have at the moment.
Morton = Bruce - hopefully better foot skills
Grimes = MacDonald - fit, determined, leads by example, all round midfielder with no glaring weakness
Maric = Green - starts his career as a forward who doesn't miss a set shot (remember Green 2000-2001) although he might not make it to the midfield a lot will argue Green should still be forward

Maybe CC thought these guys are the types to gel with McLean, Jones and Sylvia and the likes of Davey and Bartram can ad pace, Buckley could be another, he moves well and could be suited to playing off a wing adding run.

But I'm not concerned about pace, I like the way Bailey is teaching the boys basic skills like handballing again, and then building it up in running drills, it hopefully gets the team playing a fast pace and youthful attacking game that we were so successful with in 2000 and again in 2004 before fading with it in 05 and 06 before last years failure in the NAB cup and first few rounds where we tried to go handball crazy but forgot to go forward and kick the thing.

I don't know maybe I'll be proved incorrect but i think we are a relitvely slow side especially in the middle and teams were able to pressure us into mistakes as they always seemed like they were on our tails.

I do agree with that, but on the flipside our inside midfielder stocks are sured up for the future with Grimes, Jones and Brock.

Has been elevated on to the main list as a senior player for quite some time.
I disagree. I'm positive that Shane Valenti is on our rookie list, through last weeks rookie draft. I know Jace Bode has been elevated maybe you are getting mixed up with him.

yeh i think he got mixed up just to clear it up for everyone our rookies are Zomer,Wonaeamirri,Spencer and Valenti :thumbsu:

It's an old saying but I still like it -
Pace isn't just about legspped, but about how well and quickly you can move the ball and make good decisions.
Not many players can outrun a good handball!
Having initiative and being well balanced to take your first quick steps is what really counts.
I think we got some smart and calm players this draft, so I'm happy.

true, true.

I dont think we are super quick, but are quick enough. Just look at the cats, you wouldnt say they are super quick, they have wojenski and ablett breaks lines. I am happy with our list in terms of pace.
