Mark Neeld is back in football although he is not returning to the coaches box.
The former Melbourne coach, sacked in June last year after prolonged on-field struggles and amid a major off-field restructure, has been appointed AFL Victoria's new eastern region talent manager.
The role also involves managing the Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup.
He replaces Anthony Parkin, who has joined Port Adelaide as its recruiting manager for Victoria and Tasmania.
AFL Victoria state league and talent manager John Hook said Neeld was the right man for the role.
“Mark possesses the skill set needed for the role of talent manager,” Hook said.
At the time of his departure, Neeld said his axing had not affected his desire to eventually rejoin the AFL fraternity.
He was given a payout in the region of $500,000 by the Demons with a year-and-a-half left on his contract.
Before becoming a Collingwood assistant coach, Neeld had previously spent three years with the Western Jets in the TAC Cup.
“I really enjoyed my previous time within the TAC Cup at the Western Jets," Neeld said.
“It is another one of the attractions of coming back to the TAC Cup competition that you get to work with the up and coming stars."

That's the full article.

Good to see that he didn't totally ruin his chances of another role in the AFL, and good to see the AFL coming in and giving him something as I doubt he would've been offered much after the Demon Saga. I hope for his sake he's learned tact.

bit of an update from the SEN site.

Former Melbourne coach Mark Neeld has spoken about his new football venture after he was named talent manager of the Eastern Ranges.

Neeld has spent several months away from the game after his time at the Demons was brought to a premature end back in June last year, and he told SEN he's had a lot of time to decide what to do next.

“The last six months for me have been a really good life experience,” he said.

“I’ve managed to spent a terrific amount of time with my family, [and] part of that time was working out what I wanted to do, and when this position became available I decided, ‘Yeah that looks like something that I can add value to’.”

Neeld said he learned a lot during his time coaching the Demons and he's trying not look back on his time at Melbourne in a negative way.

“[In] my time at Melbourne, I learnt a lot,” he said.

“Coaching groups always do what they believe to be the right thing at that right time...it’s an experience that I had and it’s one that I took a lot from.”
