Irish papers today say that young Cork dual player Setanta O'hAlpin (Gaelic Football & Hurling) is to signfor Charlton on Tuesday.

He is a brilliant footballer but better hurler and has played for his county at under 18 level and was the star of this years All Ireland Senior Hurling Final even though on the losing side.

He was also picked at corner forward on the Hurling Allstar side (the equivelent of your All Australian)

His father is Irish and his mother from the South Pacific and he may have been born in Australia before the family returned to Cork.

He is refarded as an exceptional athlethe and , if true , his losss to Cork Hurling in particular, will be a major blow.

Any word of it Downunder

More on Setanta

He is 20 years of age - single - and is named after a mithicac Irish Hero who was a friend of Cuchulain with whom he played Hurling.

He is the nearest thing to a sex symbol in Gaelic Games with young women alleged to swoon at his good looks - I would't know - I just swoon at his ability with a hurley!

He has been working in New York since the end of the season in September but flew to Melbourne for trials with Charlton last week.

All his family are great hurlers and his older brother Sean Og (translates to English as John Junior) was also picked on the AllStar team.

You idiot, delete this immediately !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

79, Shiek knew, he was just trying to protect Setatna`s anonymity till the club made it public.
Probably a bit rough on coiler though.
Coiler congrats you were on the money.
The truth is a few people knew but the club wanted it quiet.
Hope we didnt offend you.

Cheers

Aaah, sort of ??

I was of the understanding that the club was hoping to keep this guy's recruitment some sort of a secret, that's why I strongly worded that reply earlier. However, the HUN have really exposed it with that article so everyone may as well talk about it as much as they like now. Everyone on CSC & TBV can now give their thoughts without having to contend with being the one who "leaked the info". :)

That's right THS, I was only "toeing the party line" so to speak.

Apologies to Coiler, no offense intended.

It was fun while it lasted Sheik, but I guess now we'll have to bask in the beauty of other club's supporters saying Setanta is only Carlton clutching at straws again because we're draft cheats.:)

It doesn't matter what we do at the moment 79, we are going to cop it anyway. If we pluck 18yo's we are told they are too young. If we go for recycled players we are told they are hacks.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Oh well, let's just see how many smiles we can wipe of certain faces in season 2004.

You've successfully sucked out the thoughts from my brain with that post. ;)

Pagan know what his doung. He's building his own team, players who will play his style.

We'll be okay in 2004, we haven't picked up hacks.

Setanta O H'Alipin

Hi lads,

Here in Ireland the big news is that your club is drafting one of irelands
biggest sporting hero's, Setanta O H'Alipin. He plays hurling with his
county, Cork. He received the young player of the year award this year in
his first season. his about 6ft 5 and a great athlete.

Any news about it there? Any information?

Check out Cork Gaa's supporters website, "Rebel Gaa", if ye want information
about Setanta, check out the discussion forum . Would really appreciate if
ye would post what ye know about the deal in the forum on the site.

Rebel GAA, I'm Aussie Rules on your forum. Just got back from listening to our coach talk and he answered a question from BlueMark on The Blue View about your boy. Will Go over and post the details now, very funny stories about Santy.
