You will have noticed that the thread tag navigation bar we had on the old site is not there right now. All these cosmetic things are on the back-burner for now, till the techies/Chief get thru all their to-do list of site issues. In the meantime, there are two ways to do the same thing.

1) click on any tag and Xen has a built-in mechanism that automatically lists all the threads with that tag. A little menu appears at the top and then you can click the 'x' to remove that filter and see all threads again.

2) at the bottom of the forum is a "display options" button, where you can click on the drop-down menu and select the thread tags you want to view. This is the best method in the meantime.

Another issue is youtube videos. Chief is looking at a fix where the old tags work. But in the meantime there are two ways to embed video links. The easiest method is to simply copy-paste a video link in its entirety into a post and Xen will automatically embed it. No bbcode required. Another method is using the [ media=youtube] prefix tag then pasting the youtube bit after the = sign as we used to do then closing it with the [ /media].

The cool thing is, Xen can embed videos from the following sites: YouTube, DailyMotion, Facebook, LiveLeak, MetaCafe, Vimeo, and many many more that Chief has added over time. I recommend just using the easiest method of copying-pasting the entire link and letting Xen embed it automatically.

If you have any other issues, requests, etc, you can use the link that Chief has posted above on every page: please report any issues here

Thanks for your patience during this migration process.

The thread tags is actually the way BigFooty is moving forward site-wide (for the most part), tho some boards will also retain actual sub-boards as well as having tags and tag nav bar menus for their main board.

The NFL Board was just one of many other boards that took on the process early. Other boards that did it were the graphics design board, rugby league board, media board, video games board, etc. Have a look around you'll see thread tags with nav bar menu was happening site wide before the migration process.

Personally, I don't see the point of our board having any actual sub-boards anymore, as the tag nav bar acts as a sub-board. Actually allows us to have multiple needed 'sub-boards' like gaming, fantasy, AE, etc, without actually breaking up the board into so many divided sub-boards that also end up dead.

Example...

If you want to "go" to a sub-board called "Fantasy" where you can see all threads related to fantasy games only, you would just click the "fantasy" nav bar menu and it would "take you" to a place where all the threads are fantasy related. Just like an actual 'sub-board' would. And if you wanted to a start a new fantasy thread or post in one, you're always still in that place until you decide to "go" to a new 'sub-board' like "Gaming" or you could "go" back to the main board by clicking "All".

It's how BF is moving toward, sub-boards redundant (for the most part), with an easier quicker simpler navigation process that effectively IS A SUB-BOARD.

Again, another thing I like about it is that we can have multiple 'sub-boards' now for good purposes like NCAA-related content, gaming or fantasy or AE content, without breaking up the main forum into 10 actual sub-boards. And because the 'main board' (All) lists every type of tag, you will generate more traffic, posts, and views to topics that normally would be passed over.

I know that people may not have an interest in 'fantasy' or 'ncaa' threads filling up the board, so i guess they can filter it to see only the threads that interest them (nfl for instance), and keep that 'narrow' view of the board if they want. While others who feel this way may from time to time return to the "All" view and start taking an interest in NCAA or Team threads that they didn't before.

The problem with using the tags as a substitute for having sub-boards is that you can't select to have certain tags showing at the same time.

For example, you cant choose to only show the NFL, Gaming and Fantasy tags and hide the NCAA and AE tags. Its either everything (which can be too cluttered) or only 1 tag atm (which severely limits the usefulness of the tags over sub boards)

Yep, i understand that. And that's a good suggestion btw. I will pass that on to Chief to see if he can do that. I think it's possible in Xen because as I said before, there's already a built in mechanism that acts like a nav bar. And if you try it, you'll see it creates its own menu above where there's a large space where you could theoritically add more filters of your choice.

Btw....I recreated the HOF thread, so people have to re-cast their votes. The poll thing got fixed, but I had to re-create it all.

Yep, I've reminded Chief about the missing colors, as well as what you requested -- having the ability to select/deselect multiple thread filters, not just see one at a time. Again, there's an inbuilt Xenforo system that creates its own nav-bar, so it could be very easy for Chief to re-code it so that by default it always stays displayed, with all the filters displayed, and people could hide/show those filters or reset them to 'view all'.

Just gotta be patient as Chief has a ton of stuff (both important and cosmetic) to wade thru. But I have re-reminded him.

Perogative or no, I thought you wanted feedback, my bad.

Anyway, I find it hard to trawl through the multitude of useless threads to find anything of interest to discuss. Id assume casual readers would find it hard too, probably more so since they wouldnt be in the fantasy leagues I am.

Just saying if one's readership has dropped due to x,y,z, that's their call. It's never nice to lose touch with regulars, etc, but I'm not snapping at you for it. Your feedback is appreciated.

Drd23's suggestion which has been passed on to Chief, and which is do-able in Xenforo, is a very good one, and should help even more. Would allow everyone to pick and choose which thread topics one wants displayed. Like if you only want to see NFL, OTHER and FANTASY topics, you could 'show' all those and 'hide' the rest. Etc.

Overkill. Given the population of this board, there isn't the interest/traffic to cover an array of NFL/NCAA teams individually.

It's great having the thread prefixes because now we can have multiple 'sub-boards' that deserve their own section....but at the same time not hidden away to die. So gradually interest will build in the NCAA by having its own thread prefix filled with its own individual threads, not all shoved away in one "ncaa 2012 discussion" thread which did the NCAA and its topics a disservice.

Obviously, getting the hide/show ability will be incredibly helpful allowing people to choose their board topic views, minimizing the 'clutter'.

Choice is the important thing to always cater for.
Everyone's different, different interests, so tailoring their board 'experience' to what suits them is great.
They can always 'reset' to the default "display all" view, or add prefixes as their interests dictate.
It's exactly like how we've always had the "subscribed boards" tool in the old site and now. You can pick and choose, add or drop, boards as your interests change.
