Newton Again

There are obviously issues with Newton.

The club might not be going public with them, but Daniher alluded to them last year, and if your only young KP forward isn't getting a game when you're on rock bottom then somethings amiss.

If Juice can't turn it around and leaves at the end of the season, we are set firmly back at square one. You aren't going to win many games with Robbo as your sole marking forward, Miller is never going to be a big goal-kickers, hes a lead up CHF and the likes of Bate, Dunn and Garland don't seem to be big enough to hold down a FF spot.

We'll be back at square one.

Wheres big Trent Zomer gone?

Re: Newton Again.

Newton didn/t play for sandy on the weekend and the reserves had a bye, so it is hard to tell if he is injured or not. He is not listed in the herald sun as injured??? Something seems to be amiss.

Re: Newton Again.

Screw him. If he can't stand up for us now, when we need him most, he never will.

Let Garland play out of the goal square for the rest of the year.

Obviously Bailey has other plans up forward as he seems to not want to play Garland up forward. I'd kill to know them

I'm longing for a player to step up to the mark as out next KP forward, but i dont want them to move Garland around like Miller of the past or even Dunn this season. It hurt Miller no end and Dunn has lost his spot in the side because he never got a chance to establish himself in one spot under Bailey. If he's going to go forward he's got to stay there.

You don't always hear about minor type injuries to fringe players, so if Newtons back in the 2's this week he's probably had something minor.

Re: Newton Again.

Newts no more

F knows what goes on at Melbourne... seriously, the amount of young players we chew out... we couldn't develop a team of ping pong players.

Re: Newton Again.

My mate is friends with him on facebook and reckon's his last status was "needs a new knee" or something along those lines, so maybe he is carrying an injury.

Re: Newton Again.

What a great day for football journalism when we have to find out all our news off Facebook.

At least he's gotten his face on the Mark of the Year for the rest of time. Good thing everyone held off on those #29 jumpers they were threatening to buy.

Re: Newton Again.

the funny thing is i heard that apparently he didnt exactly gell with mr. bailey... all you fanatics for newton, choose a side mwahahaha. but either way, its newton or bailey apparently... newton hasnt been performing, (either has bailey granted) but bailey will never lose this

Or it could just be that Newton is a lazy prick who doesn't do the hard things? Doesn't always have to be a problem between player and coach.

Re: Newton Again.

Shame about the juice appreciation thread, lmao. That was fun while it lasted:D:D Lets get a cult hero who actually plays some senior footy before we carry on like that again hey.

He has hands of stone and doesnt try when the balls not going his way. As jeff fenech would say it " i told yous all".

Re: Newton Again.

well, I wouldn't mind an Andrew Lamprill appreciation thread .

As soon as he gets a game, that thread is being bumped.

I was all set this year to do my Juice 2008 Goal Tally, it stalled at 1.

Re: Newton Again.

He's got talent but it seems he's lazy.

A key forward is a must this trade/draft period. Ryan Murphy would be nice.

I'll take Murphy cheap. Anything more and it's a HUGE risk.

Re: Newton Again.

Our forward stocks are battling. Looking back did we really need McLean, Sylvia, Moloney, Valenti, Grimes who all play similar inside games. Should we have invested further in KPP stocks?

It's not like we are smashing teams through the middle at the moment.

Re: Newton Again.

what would u guys be willing for part with for murphy? he has displayed solid wafl form (kicked 7 goals this past weekend) but just cant seem to find a spot in our forwardline.

how does a high 3rd rounder sound? who knows, u guys could be the next team to benefit from a freo trade :o

I'd go for that.

How old is he? 22/23?

Maclean does play tough in and under but alos has great skills and can use the ball well.
Syvlia he is hard at it but more of running player.
Moloney hard in and under player but can also be damaging by foot when he has space.
Valenti in and under player
Grimes will be running HBF in the mold of Cameron the Bruce.

So i dnt all those players you listed are inside players given time and space Maclean syvlia can hurt by foot.

Re: Newton Again.

Bailey played garland up forward in the first quarter last week and he did ok had two shots on goal. Problem is Bailey then had to move him down back because they were getting slaughtered because our backline was just way to slow.

Oh my god?? Do you think..

I've been banging on about this for the best part of 2 years.
No disrespect but neitz should've pulled the pin at the end of 06. There was absolutely no forward thinking at melbourne,.. none whatsoever. Where was a key forward in the draft? We are now right behind in this area. Even if Newton did come on, he's a chf. We need a full-forward.

What was the problem with drafting Scott Welsh!! Youth policy?
Instead we play Neitz there for what.. 5 games.

Just shits me, now we have about 3 or 4 players out of position..

Done deal.

Very nice selective look at our drafting there, you've got your "prove my point" goggles on nice and tight.:thumbsu: Would you rather we took Kepler Bradley with the pick we used for McLean? Bradley was taken with the next pick at No.6

We've taken plenty of talls since then, just none that have developed into KP forwards.

The 2003 draft we wanted midfielders so we took Sylvia & McLean.

The 2004 draft we wanted talls so we took Bate (pick 13), Lynden Dunn (pick 15), Michael Newton (pick 43). All over 190 with KP potential.

Again in 2006 we wanted more talls, we take James Frawley (pick 12), Ricky Petterd (pick 30) and Colin Garland (pick 46).

And we use our first pick at #4 last year for another 190cm+ player.

There's 7 picks in the last 4 drafts, not including PSD and Rookies drafts, 4 of those are top 15 picks, so to say we didnt draft enough KP players is just flat out incorrect, but if you said that our development of young tall KPP has been shizen, then you might be a little closer to the mark.
