The Next 5 Games are:

  • Port @ MCG
  • Demons @ MCG
  • Dockers @ MCG
  • Blues @ MCG
  • GWS @ Spotless

I had these 5 Games as almost all wins Pre-Injury and I thought that be where we could potentially get into Top 8 or be on the Cusp of it.

But with the Injuries the only sure win is vs the Dockers and Even then I would not be Shocked IF they beat us for there 1st Win.

Your Thoughts?

I thought we'd beat the Bulldogs (and would have done if not for injuries) plus a very good chance in the next four to give us 7 wins in a row before things got tougher.

In think we'll struggle now - you can't just keep on taking top end talent out and compete. I just hope we have a few back for the Blues - we can't lose twice to them just as we were getting so close to evening up the ledger.

It doesn't really matter because after those games we have a horror run. Won't get anywhere near the finals this year. This season is about development and getting the injured players right for 2017.

We've got some pretty good experience who could come in over the next two weeks ...

- Cloke
- Brown
- Caff
- Goldsack
- Williams
- Sinclair
- Witts

... Plus a few fringe players who are yet to make their mark but may yet surprise us in the way Cox and Crocker have ...

- Goodyear
- Aish
- Marsh
- Gault

... So despite having lost four players this week, there is still good competition for spots.

This week is winnable. Next week is winnable. If we go into the break with 6:6 then that has to give us confidence going into the second half of the season.

The break will come at a welcome time.

The Freo game is obviously winnable.

Then it'll be five weeks since the Bulldogs game and many of the "mid term" injuries should start to find their way back to training (Langdon, Broomhead, Adams, Fasolo, Moore)

Our run home is then ...

Giants in Sydney
Crows in Adelaide
North at Etihad
West Coast at MCG
Richmond at MCG
Bulldogs at Etihad
Suns at Etihad
Hawks at MCG

... You'd think we'd have to win at least six of those eight games. That's possible, but you wouldn't be betting sheep stations on it.

On a positive, if we do make finals from here, we'll be going into them in white hot form!

The bookies have us slight favourites for the next two, and we'd be favourite for the next four. If we are to give the finals a shake, we simply have to win all four, no two ways about it - which will be tough with this recent spate of injuries.

The GWS game at Spotless is legitimately the hardest game to win for the rest of our season though, with Adelaide in Adelaide the week after a close second.

I reckon we're an underrated chance against GWS at Spotless. Yes they're good there but my feel is we'll match up well on them (this isn't actually based on any particular evidence). Need to go 4-1 over the next 5 though. Then win at least 4 of the last 8. Probably then need to beat Richmond, Suns, Bulldogs and snag one where we'll be unfancied.

I agree with the replacements. I actually reckon we have some good depth. I hope Caff comes in to play Adams' role and takes the opportunity with both hands. Same for Cloke with Moore.

Williams, Brown and Goldsack probably needed to come in anyway.

With our percentage we are going to need 13 wins to make It, not 12. So make that 5 of the last 8. Or actually we need to win 9 of the last 12 to make it, so I think your count is wrong.

Cloke coming in for Moore could be a blessing in disguise (nothing against Moore - future Superstar). If we can get 4 wins from the 6 rounds we will be in a much better position player wise coming into the end of the year. It will take a few to step up that may not be expected to. It will be tough but the brand of footy we have been delivering over the last 3 weeks could get us over the line in a few of these games coming up.

Trying times

Agree we need to win the next four as a bare minimum to play finals. I also suspect the trip to spotless will be a good time to get GWS. They typically play better footy in the first half of the season so not as insomountable task as we think. From there, Adelaide away is very tough but again in good from we are a chance. North at Etihad is very difficult. Should beat west coast at the G. No excuses! Shouldn't lose to any interstate sides at our home ground. I suspect Richmond will get revenge on us and dogs should take care of us at Etihad. Again must beat the Suns at home which then leaves the last match against the Hawks who I think we are due to beat.

So if we win the next four and win the following games - GWS, west coast, Suns and Hawks that leaves us with 12 wins for the season which won't get us to finals. So to make finals from here we are going to have to play amazing footy...

Absolute minimum of 13 wins to make finals, possibly 14. It's too late, unfortunately. I'd like to say we can win 5/5 games there, even the Giants game I think we prove worthy competitors. It's just that we won't win all five, even if it is a loss to Melbourne or Port that does us. That just seems to be the nature of the club, we'll do something stupid to f**k it all up

And then our run home  someone call the priest.

If we can get to the bye at 6-6 it's a good result concidering the first 7 weeks of football. The way the side has played the last 3 weeks proves that our best is good enough to compete with most sides. Injuries may very well have stuffed any chance we had of playing finals so the second half of the year for me becomes all about development and the continued improvement of the game plan.
It's a great opportunity to pump games into the kids and load up for 2017 (injuries permitting during another preseason)

We can't do much about the past. I reckon we have massive upside for next season.
That's what we say every year. And it keeps getting pushed back.

What's the alternative?
That we set a realistic target. I can't see us competing with the list we have. Only a few of our young guns will be anything near star players (Moore, Treloar, Faz, and possibly Grundy).

Yep.. the Collingwood groundhog day (years). At least this year we mixed it up and stank at the start of the season rather than the end. That was different!

What's the point in being realistic?
