Pendles still going great guns but when it's time to hand over the captaincy surely it goes to Tay Adams.

This bloke just bleeds black and white got smashed twice yesterday, straight back up and onto the next contest.

Thoughts?

I think he'd be a shoe in at this stage. Grundy stepping up in terms of the leadership group is the only thing that could change it.

While Grundy is a good leader in his own right. I'm not sure he'd want to be the sole captain. Nor am I sure he would be right for it. Grundy follow by example in his actions on the field, but Adams, if you're 30 points down, I think he would be the one that could get them up and running for the fight.

Still remember this blokes Grand Final absolutely amazing think he goes to an elite type level this year.

Adams would be at shorter odds than Winx, one would think.

As for when he takes over, can't be before Pendles retires. It's his team and even if he doesnt have the title, I dont think its fair on either of Adams or Pendlebury to have a 'handover' year.

I'm not saying that Adams isn't tough Jen, and whilst if we were 30 points down he'd definitely be trying to lift us, but Taylor Adams doesn't have the "tools" (abilities) that Grundy has to win a game off his own ability. Grundy can carry our whole side at times and when the big fella LIFTS and goes on a rampage like he has in recent times....there's no stopping him (or us).
Tay Adams is your Scotty Burns type captain, tough as teak and gives his all. Grundy as well as being a monster of a player is eloquent, caring of his team mates and on a never ending quest of personal development. If Adams were as smart as Lukey Ball I'd be all for it, but he's a meat grinder, he'll take no prisoners and he'll call a spade a shovel in his quest to win.

Sidey might get a year or two after Pendles (is there such a time?) but after that I'm really hoping that its GRUNDY time.

fair enough. Nothing wrong with Grundy winning games off his own boot, but still feel Adams is the best suited. And if that does happen, Grundy won't be captain at all. They are similar in ages. But he can support Adams in vice captain.

Annoying that there’s not much of an age gap between Adams and Grundy. We could have a nice transition.

FWIW, Adams C. Grundy VC.

I wouldn’t rule out Howe.

My prediction captain (someone in 2030) is Matt Rowell. When he comes to us in FA. Thanks Suns.

I’m not sure I agree, and by no means am I undermining Grundy’s abilities.

In the 2010 grand final I thought Goddard was a shoe in for the norm smith, I was oblivious at the work Hayes was doing at the coal face. I think in much the same way Taylor is somewhat underrated, we are far worse off without him than what people understand. He lifts his intensity when others cannot, he finds a gear to grind his opponents into submission...he visibly demonstrates his intent. He is not easily replaced, neither is Grundy I know!

Grundy is the better player. But as Maxwell showed us, you don’t need to be the best player to be the best leader. I think Grundy is not a footballers footballer, he is a quirky character...a unique cat. Refreshing in a way, but I don’t think he’s the type to mobilise troops and lead in the traditional footballing sense, he is more your modern day hipster...again not taking away from his commitment on the field but country kids aren’t going to warm to that I don’t think. I can’t see him disciplining younger players coming through either. Perhaps my views are outdated, but Taylor has the personality characteristics that I believe are better suited to captaining an AFL side.

Would love Tay to be the next skipper. Was watching him on the bench at the Morwell Saints preseason game yelling his guts out and clearly passionate about what to a lot of us just a fun day out at the footy. The bloke has a commanding presence on the team and is an absolute brute, also came from an expansion club - remind you of anyone in particular? ;)

I was a relatively younger magpie fan (13yo when he came to the club in 2014) so I never really saw the potential for this until last year. Has Taylor always been considered to take over the reigns once his allegiance was established, or was there something that was missing until only recently?

Adams without a shadow of doubt. Grundy strikes me a bit like your spearhead fast bowler, but not exactly the bloke you'd give the top job to.

Adams IMO does not have the empathy with the “different“ personalities in the group.

By the way it isn’t a criticism of him as he would be my second choice......but I haven’t seen him do this.

Grundy just gets it..........he is a natural born leader.

Ugly defensive players usually make good Collingwood captains, so Maynard. Imagine opposition heads exploding.

Grundy is a lovely footballer but I don't think he's a born "leader" like T Shaw or Maxwell.

Taylor Adams is a toughnut who has wised up, he'd make a decent leader or VC.

I don’t think he was always the obvious choice, was very uncomfortable in front of the camera and had some flaws in his game namely his kicking and confidence. He would worry himself into make skill errors and turning the ball over. What was always unwavering though was his commitment to his team mates and winning the ball. So I guess from that perspective you could argue he had the ingredients...or at least some of them. I think he has matured nicely and his disposal has improved out of sight, including his goal kicking. Set shot maybe still a bit suspect, which is something that Grundy does really well.

I suspect the players will have a big say on who the next captain is.

Grundy for me. Just a calm influence over the team, but at the same time will run himself into the ground to get his team over the line.
Adams VC
Howe DVC
I would still have Pendles in the leadership group, should he relinquish the captaincy however.
