That's not true. Hurley and Carlisle are not natural leaders and are actually fairly shy kids in many ways. Zaka is a bit of a smartarse.

Heppell is the only one who drags an ordinary TAC cups side into the finals then single handedly wins the prelim with over 40 possies and a few goals. On top of that he takes the 3/4 time address to fire up the troops.

On you're last criteria you can include Melksham in the group as well as he played a blinder in a GF that got his side over the line (and was sent to Japan with Zaharakis as part of some leadership program the club was running).

I'm sorry you can't see it. I have no doubt that Essendon will have a fantastic leadership group in a few years. It will also have a fantastic captain, which will be blindingly obvious within a a season or two.

This is not about Heppell as much as it is about the others. I honestly see no reason why he would be any more likely than 3 to 5 other young guns because they would all be candidates of the highest quality.
