so by your own logic Scodog10 endorsement of the clubs strategy is sound - given you think your scenario of finishing bottom 4 is unlikely.
I think a club that plans draft strategy, for the “unlikely”, as you’re suggesting here is making a mistake.
No as I said above I would prefer to hold onto the 2021 1st. I dont think we got a great deal for it, I suspect it will end up being a top 10 pick and the worst outcomes are pretty bad. Dont want to labour it too much and if Poulter and McMahon are good players Hine will have done well. Just think the smarter play was to hold it for seasons end.

I disagree with his reasons for going with carlton. That's no excuse Nick lol

But good thing he wants to play with his brother and wants to end up at the pies. He knows where his future lies.

" "Marc Murphy was always my favourite player growing up and we played local footy with the Silvagnis and they got me to run out with the team, they got me a jumper, a locker, so it was an easy option for me," he said. "

I don't blame Nick. they are so vulnerable at an early age. Its' clear SOS brainwashed him. But that's alright. that will change when he put on the Black and white stripes

Potential No. 1 draft pick Nick Daicos says he feels like “just another player” and will not be burdened by the pressure of carrying on a famous name at Collingwood.
A father-son prospect for the Magpies, the 18-year-old son of Collingwood legend Peter Daicos again turned heads in a VFL practice match last Friday after an impressive six-week training stint with the Magpies at the Holden Centre.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has said the enormously-talented Daicos is almost capable of playing AFL football straight away.

However, Daicos will continue to hone his skills with Oakleigh Chargers in the NAB League this season, with some more VFL outings also an option as he continues his development.

“It’s really nice of Bucks to say something like that, but I’m aware I’m a long way off it,” Daicos told the Herald Sun.

“But hopefully I can be there in a year’s time.”

Daicos trained at Collingwood alongside his older brother Josh over summer, after his underage NAB League season was wiped out last year due to COVID-19.

Standing 182cm, Daicos has primarily played on a halfback flank or on a wing to date, but is seen as a future star AFL midfielder.

Like his famous father – who kicked 549 goals at the top level – he also loves to celebrate a goal and thinks he has brother Josh covered in the goalkicking ranks.

“I think we’re pretty similar,” Daicos said when asked about comparisons to his brother.

“(But) hopefully I kick a few more goals than him, that’s all I’d say.”

The VFL scratch match last Friday was Daicos’ first competitive game in 21 months, but AFL recruiters noted he looked like a natural.

“The six weeks at Collingwood doing a bit of match sim, that really helped and even settled the nerves going into the VFL game,” Daicos said.

“I knew that I was pretty well prepared from the last six weeks training at the top level.”

Daicos dismissed suggestions that there was added pressure that came with carrying on a famous name at Collingwood.

“I’ve always just felt as another player,” he said.

“People always talk about it but as soon as I get out on the park I’m just another player and my surname’s not really relevant. As long as I can do what I know I can do – and that is play footy – I know the rest will take care of itself.”

Strangely, Daicos grew up a Carlton supporter but said his dream had always been to play alongside his brother Josh at AFL level, something that looks likely to happen next year.

“Wherever he is, I’d be happy to play,” Daicos said.

“But I’ve obviously loved Collingwood and I’d love to play my footy there. So hopefully everything pans out that way.”

I was waiting one from the age, here we go lol

Collingwood father-son prospect Nick Daicos says he will be supporting the Pies in Thursday night’s match against Carlton, despite growing up a Blues fan.

Daicos, set to be in the first handful of picks in this year’s national draft, is the son of Magpies legend Peter and younger brother of current Pie Josh but barracked for Carlton since he was six, idolising Marc Murphy.

But Nick said his allegiances were now with Collingwood.

“Obviously I love the Collingwood Football Club and I’m always supporting them but when Carlton are playing as well I have a soft spot for the Blues. Come Thursday night I’ll be barracking for the Pies I’m sure, especially with Josh out there, but I don’t want the Blues to get smashed,” Daicos said on Tuesday at the launch of the NAB League boys season.

Daicos produced an eye-catching performance on Friday in a practice match for the Pies’ VFL team. He will split his time this year between Collingwood’s VFL side and the Oakleigh Chargers.

“It was unreal. Obviously I learnt a lot from playing VFL, it was a big step up and took a few things from the game that now I can work on, so it was a good experience for me.

“It was a great feeling. I was just happy to get out on the park and to play OK.

“It was my first game in 21 months so the six weeks [of training] at Collingwood doing a bit of match sim, that really helped.”

Daicos said he would not be affected by the hype that came with being a potential No.1 pick and carrying a famous surname.

“To be honest, I don’t really pay too much attention to it.

“I’m well aware that there’s a lot of work I need to do.”

I agree, the kids we have brought in should be the focus not the number thewere selected at. Let's hope they all come good.

Need to stop having the Draft to stop that

Peter, Peter, Peter.

How on earth could you, a Collingwood legend, allow your son to support the scum?:poo:

If it wasn't for the fact you're my all time favourite player I'd call for you to be shot on sight.:p

Probably a good thing. Tom Lynch, Jeremy Cameron and Logan McDonald all supported the Pies and we know how those ended

This years draft is a midfielders draft especially in the top end, so even if we kept our 1st, all we'd get is another mid, and we're getting the best mid already. Meanwhile we got a key forward and a tall mid from last year.

I think you're misreading where our mids are at - we need them, can't bank on this new group yet- we haven't drafted a decent mid since Sidey and Beams (maybe JDG will change that). But the reality is we wouldn't get to use it in 2021 - we'd either have traded it for a player or ontraded it into 2022. I would have kept it for that reason.

Yeah, we probably could have done what you suggest. But Hine seemed determine to get a ton of players in the 2020 draft. Whether it was the right or wrong decision, we won't know yet. But its done and we can't go back and undo it.

It did leave us with little option once it did come out that we wanted to trade it, whether that was before the draft or on the night. We'll have to wait and see how this pans out.

Hine's gone out on a limb backing himself in in this draft. Hopefully it's a bloody magnificent move. But I still think GWS saw us coming, and we should have gotten more back than we did.

without a 1st... can someone clarify how we are finding the points to pay for top 3 pick Daicos?

1 x 2nd rd pick and 1 x 3rd pick is not enough

Were gonna do the Ned Guy strat, tell everyone we're desperate for points then wait till the last minute and get bullied into a terrible deal.

We have two third round picks
We wont finish that low on the ladder
We can go into deficit
We can trade picks in
Dontworryaboutit

All of the above
