Peter Daicos played his first Reserves game in 1978. From what I can see, that game almost certainly was against Geelong in Rd. 12, and would have been at Waverley Park, as that's where the senior teams played. At the very least it's the first time his name appears in the best players or among the goalkickers for the Reserves. He was named in the U19's best players in the four games leading up to the Geelong game, so it adds up that he would have been promoted after that. He was named best player for Collingwood against the Cats, but failed to score a goal:

A check of the Football Record from 1978 shows he kicked 4 goals in total in the Reserves that year, with never any more than 1 goal in a game.

So perhaps this is the game you are thinking of? It was in the opening round of 1979, and would have been played at Victoria Park, prior to the seniors game. Daicos kicked 3 goals, and was named best player:

His senior debut came just three weeks later in Rd. 4.

That was my wedding day. 28 April 1979. Still married to the love of my life (sadly, she's an Essendon supporter ) and I haven't managed to convert her even after all these years. I remember standing at the altar while my Best Man has a transistor radio with ear phones in, and was nudging me every time the Pies kicked another goal! Good times.

PS. Enjoyed watching the Channel 7 replay on our wedding night.

If nothing else, it will completely justify our trading strategy on draft night last year. I said mid way through last year that I thought we would do extremely well from the 20/21 drafts, and I’ve seen nothing that makes me think that won’t be the case.

He is the light in a dismal dark tunnel. It was so refreshing to watch him in those drills and to focus on pure football. Joy.
