I was too young to recall the Darcy Moore hype, was it this loud?

Has any F/S selection (AFL-Wide) ever been this highly touted?

None quite had the performances like ND to match the hype making it build up more.

T.Cloke had a fair bit of hype and performance to match.
Moore had decent hype.

Gaz jnr had hype but only showed glimpses of what he was capable of early.

Hawkins was highly touted.

Daniher too bout similar to Moore and Cloke.

That's largely due to f/s rule only costing later round picks originally before the change.
Hawkins and T.Cloke were both considered top 5 if in open draft.
shame they didn't keep that rule lol

Moore was regarded as a potential number 1, but a combination of injury in the years previous to his draft year, and then uncertainty on his best position, saw him drop to a bid at 6. The hype with him was massive though, very close to what we’re seeing with Nick.

Hawkins had a lot of hype and was definitely touted as a potential No. 1 pick. It was the outrage at Geelong getting him for pick 41 that led to the bidding system coming in.

I don't remember nearly as much trouble with Collingwood getting Trav Cloke for pick 39 so he mustn't have been as hyped as Hawkins.

Shame that they only changed the rule after Hawkins went to Geelong, otherwise Joel Selwood would have been a Collingwood player.

Pendlebury, Swan and Selwood as a midfield trio. Best midfield of all time?
Sure, that’s all well and good, but we wouldn’t have had Nathan Brown...

Wasn't anywhere near this level, people have been counting the years awaiting this draft ever since he was awarded best player at the u14 champs.

Need to remember around 90% of Pie fans rate Peter as their favourite player too.

It was mentioned on TAC Cup Future Stars but nothing like Daicos as did not get weekly Articles on what he did.

I went to a Few TAC Cup Games during the Year to watch him Play

Yep, could have left the FS changes till the year after Moore, but no....

Can we trade Nick Daicos for 2 late first round picks so we can grab Nick Daicos and another young gun? [emoji102]
There are a few on these boards that would jump at a deal like that . . . Fair dinkum, if they walked outdoors to find themselves on the deck of their beachshack on a Bali beach in 2002 with the sunlight pouring through the canopy and the clear water beaconing they would be too busy bitching about being unable to find their blessed sunglasses to enjoy the splendor at their feet.

To such individuals the only suggestion I could offer is to remove their head from their fundamental . . .

Daicos INVENTED turning the ball on it's axis and angling the ball through and it is now a league wide practice.

Anyone who wasn't privileged watch his career unfold from the stands cannot be expected to understand PK was a true demi-god.

His youngest son appears to have most of his attributes and talent with the advantage of coming through a stronger training regime.

I would be shocked if it wasn't so.

This is a key aspect. The near-mythical status of Peter has changed the way Nick has been regarded. Also coincides with more widespread access to info about junior players

In all fairness these days I would be pretty hesitant to step out on the beach without sunglasses... only get one set of eyes.....

Agreed - It has always been like living in a goldfish bowl being player for the Pies but the present circumstances and the nature of his father's unmatched talent will lay a heavy burden on young shoulders.
A burden - thankfully - he appears well able to handle.
Thankfully he is not debuting this season - with the Jackals in the media - led by The Richmond rat pack - anyone connected with the club who farts on a public conveyance will be reported in public media and pilloried by the jackals.

Fair comment, although I would argue that if they were to remove said bonce from said fundamental they would probably find glasses hooked into the empty Mai tai tumbler at their feet.
The requisite mental focus to acknowledge said bonce was in a dark and fearsome place would be a perquisite though . . .

I should add the Blues regarded him top 3. The 15 other clubs had him pick 80+
Then again the Scum have the Collingwood wannabee's for the last couple of decades.

Taking every reject with any hint of talent they could fit in in a truly pathetic attempt to harm our club publicly.

Their courting and subsequent signing of Malthouse was for no other reason than to spite the magpies, wile the signing of Daisy was greeted with a chorus of heavenly angels and huge smiles around the board room.

Gee that turned out well didn't it???
