possibly the most underrated player in the team but plays with alot of heart and gives 100% every week and gets the job done at both ends of the field. Only magpie at the moment playing like a leader, rocca fraser and other older blokes need to step up atm but maxwell is playing very well and i hope he can keep going because he will get the accolades he deserves

love his work ethic sorta player you love at your club previously havent been impressed with him up foward glad to see it pay off still really intrested in his importance to our structure long term that said he is never gonna be a weak link in a team gives so much and has so much versatility ala adam hunter cept harder at it bigger work ethic

I've always liked Nick and thought he played well on the weekend. Barring the brain-fade he had when he handpassed to Rocca after marking in goal square.

This is a pointless thread. Anyone that didnt already think Maxwell is an integral part of our team doesn't understand football.

If he develops into a 'Hunter style' player he will be incredibly valuable to our club!

I liked his game on Saturday night – at least relative to nearly all his team mates. Heath Shaw similarly never gives in and even when beaten produces something. They were the pick of our bunch.

I like the way Nick puts in. I like the fact he has some versatility. I like the leadership he displays. His athleticism, skills and reading of the play are at the very least up to scratch. Nevertheless I think there are better players than Nick for every position he is capable of playing. I don’t know there is a lot of upside in his further development. O’Brien has taken his place much as he took Jason Cloke’s in our best 18 IMO.

Nick’s qualities make him a good bench player and failing that a valuable squad player. At the very least injuries will see him in the side most weeks. He isn’t only playing at present due to injuries but with a full list I am not sure where he would play. The imminent departure of Wakelin and the age or Presti and Clement are the only reason I would hesitate in trading him at year end. Even then a lot would depend on the long term future of Goldsack and Brown.

I’d be happy to keep him but he’d get a good price. You have to give to get and we need a ruckman and quick skilled mids. As good as Maxwell was on Saturday night in an overall very poor team effort the lack of a ruckman and the midfield deficiencies were starkly illustrated and not for the first time. It’s no good just offering up Lonies and O’Brees in trade week because they won’t get the price we need and it is pointless relying solely on the draft to build a multi premiership squad. It is remotely possible but it just isn’t playing acceptable odds.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree in most respects to that but as you said to trade him would put a lot of pressure on brown and goldsack in the future. I think to be of real long term value will have to continue improving his options as a pinch hitter up foward having someone with that much versatlility can allow you to mix and match your final 22 a lot better the other question is how important to the team dynamic in terms of his leadership.

The fact reamians that in terms of a player with "real trade value" that is no pen marked in to being an absolute key to our hopeful future success that he is the most sparable.

Maxwell & Heater will be the basis of our leadership group in the years going forward. They have the right attributes to push their teamates to their level of desparation & fighting qualities. If the entire list had their commitment we would be very hard to beat.
