I would gladly welcome him to play at another club - he couldnt get fit training each week as an AFL listed player - whats he going to look like (condition wise) after a year out of the game??

the same as when he left - fat and lazy with a stuffed neck

He was a good player, and a good servant for Carlton. I don't understand why people need to mock him. You realise he couldn't have injured his neck if he didn't put it on the line first. - And he showed a lot of bravery to come back from a serious injury like that.

While I appreciate his efforts for Carlton, I do get a little annoyed at the desire to ride on the coattails of players at another team who have done the hard yards to get into a flag winning position and cost another player their place in the team. He is clearly saying that Carlton is not an option unless they are flag contenders next year. Pity Nick was not the sort of player that you can build a premiership tilt around, and merely someone to capitalise on the work of others.

I'm not bitter, but the lack of loyalty bugs me, even though I know it is a two way street.

For some reason, he never felt 100% Carlton to me, while Scotland despite his beginnings ... does.

Bigger question is, would a top level club pick him up?

I think he tried his best for Carlton for a number of years, however he was just about the only quality on-baller we had making it easier for the opposition to close him down (ie. Kerr at WC after Cousins & Judd left) and struggled in the last couple of years with the rise of Murph, Judd & Gibbs and probably wasn't as fit as others.

I don't see the Saints picking him up, despite his disposal skills Stevo isn't quick and the Saints probably want pace (ie. selection of Lovett), at the Cats they've got a midfield with the likes of Bartel, Ablett, Selwodd, the Pies have the same issue as the Saints when it comes to pace, and the Bulldogs have a lot of quality mids in front of Stevo.

Anyway, just watching that interview with Stevo, I didn't think he came across as desperate to return, it was more if the right opportunity happened to present itself.

Applaud your sentiments with this post. However just because Nick injured his neck does not prove he was a committed player. As it is Nick was hot and cold. Sometimes he was hard and passionate other times played as a victim. Had he been a fully committed player I believe he would be remembered fondly by all. It is his attitude that has created the wide gulf of opinions about him.

he was great for Carlton through those bad years but he wouldnt get a game in our midfield now...surely.

Many would agree with you that he was great in the hard times. I see that he was great some weeks and very poor on others. This also was evident in his time at Port. Nick was never a great player at any time in his career even though he was gifted with the ability to be great. He has symbolised the last 7-8 years at Carlton where we have consistently played less than committed football. The club needs more people with work ethics like MathewKruzeur displays.

A fast transition based game where players need to play both def and off every second. That is why Stevo was finished with us and thus why nobody will waste their time
