Nick Stone

Date of Birth: 1 October 1981

Height 196cm Weight: 94kg

Recruited From: Hawthorn

ABOUT
Selected late (pick#82) in the 1999 AFL National Draft by Collingwood, Stone broke through to play eight games in his first senior season (2001). In 2002 Stone played 8 games for Hawthorn. Stone is a tall centre-half back with excellent agility for his size.

He comes to St Kilda after unsuccessful stints at Collingwood and Hawthorn. He has had several seasons of development and has already played 16 AFL games.

My reasoning may be flawed but I see his inclusion as suggestion that St Kilda weren't after a kid in need of development. They wanted a ready made player who could act as a back up KPP (most probably CHB). He has the height and the agility.
Beverige must have seen something in him, which suggests that he is no hack. (Though several reports issued from Hawthorn supporters have been mixed in their assessment of him).

He is the cousin of a mate of mine so I have kept bit of an eye on him.

Can play, just wasn't given chances at the Hawks.

he can't play. he is useless and he is only on our list as a last resort, should all our tall defenders get injured. He was a Wesley college student (Melbourne) and has battled his way for the last 4 years. He is athletic but a very, very average player.

If he is retained next year i'll cut my nuts off!!!

That's a big price to pay buddy, 'cause he must know it's his last chance (3rd AFL team). I would expect that he'd be busting his own to stay on that list.

I can't say we'll hold you to that. ;)

From what I've seen of him and heard from Hawks supporters I am a little surprised at his selection but good luck to him.

He's got his last chance at an AFL club. John Beveridge can see something in him, perhaps as a young key position player who will be a late developer and come on in leaps and bounds during the course of the season.

I saw a game that he played in for the Hawks.

He looks a good size, he did his job stopping his opponent but his disposal was ordinary. Conditions were poor though so I can't really say how good he'll be.

Hey Sav - I think saying back-up at best is a bit harsh. Sure - that's why he was recruited for depth, but who knows what the future holds, eh?

Nah not really, how's it harsh?

If he's getting games it's because Penny, Hudghton, Kosi & the like are injured or badly out of form.

Sorry Saints, it would be a miracle if he players more than 5 games this year.

In a year where Hawthorn had injury worries to big players (Barker, Holland, Everitt, Thompson) he still couldn't get near the ball. Certainly got his chance to perform, but never looked like an AFL player.

Don't remember him dominating any Box Hill games either.

With the talented list the Saints have, forget about him.

Sorry guys but you have picked up 1 of the greatest duds the football world has ever seen. If he stays on the list i will truely believe in miracles.

cheers

The reports over pre-season have been positive but it's not exactly rare to hear good things about the players before the real stuff starts.

Looking forward to see how he goes on Friday night.

GO STONE!

GO STONE!! In this day and age where you are written off by the time you're 21... it suks and I personally hope STONE comes on kicks ass he is agile big maybe just needed some experience or whatever there are many factors that change a player when will people learn? I hope STONE becomes another example of why there are and should be second/third chances especially at 21 before the boy even has become a man.

I'm not sure if he'll play a big part in the senior team in 2004 but he was outstanding for Springvale and thoroughly deserved to be promoted.
