Much better today but still isn't best 22. If Muz is fit next week then I think Subes will be the one to make way.

Suban was preferred to Muz. Suban is a typical Lyon role player and today played the role he was asked to perform. As far as Ross is concerned thats enough to keep him in the side.

Salim knows RTB. Ross likes Suban, we like the Gu.
Ross has the last say.

Gu will be back, I wouldn't say Ross prefers Suban over Gu. Today team decision was based on multiple factors and it wouldn't surprise me if Gu is straight back next week.

Yep ,I'm not saying Gu won't come in for Suban.Obviously Ross thought Subes could run and handle Johnson better than Gu.Gu looks the likely match up on Gaff so you would think he will get a call up .If there isn't a match for Subes he's out.

He's got mongrel though, and he shows that in Derbies. He'll be there this Sunday.;)

Suban was good today. Not great, just good. He got the ball a lot, but didn't do much good with it.

But there are guys on our list who are better than him, probably would've done better today, and will more consistently perform for the side. He's great depth for the list, but I think keeping him in the side just because he's not sucking is going to hamper the development & match fitness of guys that have more upside

Suban was not in the game until he had a passage in the second quarter where he was around the ball five times in a few minutes.

He wasn't particularly damaging with any of those possessions. He continues to look like he was meant to play rugby - lost track of the amount of times he grabbed the ball and was immediately tackled. Lyon may see this as a positive, as his relentless need to grab the ball at least means the opposition doesn't have it.

He performed his role today but who didn't from our team. Still stuffed up the odd kick but did a couple of nice things. Did he play better than Mzungu's average game or Sheridan last week? I don't think so. He'll need to play like that every week to keep his spot.

I thought he was rubbish again. Surprised there's all this support for his game today.
Suban attacks the ball, especially when it's on the ground and up for grabs, with great courage. I don't always like his disposal, but given that football games are won by men who make great effort, he's a man I'm glad to have on our side.

He got better as the game wore on, and by the end he was doing pretty well. I'll admit I lost my shit in the (I think it was the 1st?) Qtr when he marked or got awarded a free and immediately handpassed 30cm to somebody standing flatfooted next to him who got gangtackled. Lost my f*****g mind..

I thought he was still droppable today - but at least some improvement on last week where he was truly horrible. I'd have Mzungu replacing him in a heart beat.

Yeh he had also given away a free by riding in to some guys back in a tackle. These are just careless hot-headed errors and it is quite possible that his aggression is the problem. Don't mind him being hard at it but it needs to be controlled. The requirement is to execute skills with precision , it"s not a bar fight.

You are right he did get better as the game wore on. However today we had people all over the ground playing with a level of surety and confidence to a degree that I have never seen it a Freo side. It's as if the team is moving forward And he is struggling to keep up. Needs to calm down control the aggression and get rid of the angry face.

No but his reliance on players he knows what he will get instead of players with more upside is his main weakness

But one of his main strengths is the fact he keeps a consistent team that learns to play alongside each other.

Every year there is a player that should be dropped all year for a player in the twos.

Michie, Simpson, Morabito

Michie and Morabito were underwhelming and have not shown anything since... Simpson's been delisted...

This year it looks like it's Crozier. I don't know what all the fuss is about, his game was ok last week but it wasn't amazing.

I think Suban is probably the weakest or close to the weakest of the midfielders that played today but I seriously doubt any of his potential replacements would have been better.

Really?

Tendai Mzungu is a much better player, there's no doubt there let alone serious doubt, and Hayden Crozier kicked 3 at the same venue last year. Tommy Sheridan was out injured but when he's fit he'll be another competing for Suban's spot and going on round 1 and pre-season form deserves it more.

MDB has been sub the last two weeks and to his credit has performed his role well. That means Suban is the obvious player to be pushed out in coming weeks; this is not a witch hunt, this is not a crusade, it's just the desire to see our team improve wherever possible. Is 17 harried touches every second week really enough to cement his spot in the team?

Mzungu/Crozier/Sheridan/Blakely/Weller and co aren't Viv Michie, Simpson or Morabito either just quietly. I think that's a very disingenuous comparison.

I dont really think Gu and Suban play the same role. Is Suban playing Deboers old role? who is doing Gu's role? Is that role still a thing in 2015 Dockers?
