Weren't Port Adelaide also known as "The Pivotonians"?

Amongst other things.

Try telling a Port supporter that their team used to wear pink, many will try to throw a punch.

It's a good way to tell if a Port supporter knows their own history.

Because all there really is in Congupna is the road to Echuca and nothing much else, that's my take on the nickname but it's hard to know the real reason.

I've thought about this and come to the conclusion.. What the hell is a "pivotonian"??

Wasn't one of the AFL teams called that in their early days?

Geelong were once called the Pivotonians.

Not sure on the meaning, probably a social group, like the Rechabites and the Freemasons.

Thanks, Mobben, you are the font of all football knowledge.

Do the old Roy boys follow Brisbane at all? Or is there a lot of contempt for the 'take over'. If I recall correctly there was a push for Fitzroy to relocate there in 1986, in hindsight it may have been a preferable situation.

The response to the situation was many and varied.
Some embraced the Brissy Lions.
Some have nothing but contempt for them.
Some don't mind them , but don't follow them.

Yes there was a push in 1986, and yes it would have been preferable to a merger, but if you think about it, not knowing what might happen ten years later, we as members were hardly going to votes for it back then, were we?

Did you know Port were known as that nick for a short while in their early history? When they were about to join the AFL I suggested they revisted history with their choice of a nick, except leave out the L & E.

There's also a team down here known as the "Bushpigs", but I can't remember which one.
