What did Nigel Smart's brother have to say when he rang 5AA today(monday morning)???

Is this the reason he isnt playing for the crows

He said that Nigel had a verbal exchange with Gary during one of the match meetings. Apparently Nigel didn't believe that coach was right about something and the2 2 had a few words.

He did backtrack pretty quicly when quaetioned further about it. I wouldn't read too much into it.

He said a bit more than that Stiffy.

He virtually impied that all was not well between Smarty and the coach.

He said that Nigel had gone to Gary Ayres and said that the game plan was not working. Next thing he knew, Nigel was omitted.

He also implied on-going tension by saying look at the fact that Smarty never came on until after half time in 2 milestone games - his 200th and his nuber of games record breaking match.

Gary Ayres was asked about that on Channel 9 tonight, and naturally denied it all. The one thing I didn't like was Ayres' body language as he smiled through clenched teeth.

Why do you think Smarty's brother was talking about it in the first place??

did the groin "twnige" hold up

The twinge apparently deriorated into a groin strain according to Channel 9.

He also had a cut above the eye, and not too many possessions.

I think you could call it a "black" day for Smarty.

I really wouldn't take too much out of this. Yes he did say all those things but when he was grilled a bit he was backing out of it saying in my opinion or from my point of view blah blah blah.

Are we really naive to believe every thing is hunky dory at any football club. No matter how strongly Nigle felt about the game plan he should have kept his mouth shut. I used to play a bit of sport and what ever coach said was taken as a gospel even if you felt that was not right way to go. You cop it and move on to do what you are told to do.

To be honest I am not reading too much into this. I have spoken to a couple of people that have seen Smart play for South and all of them said that he is not going get back into Crows until he starts playing well. They all think he is kick chasing.

I'm with you Stiffy, as much a fan of Nigel's as i am if he has stepped over the line in a disagreement with the way he has been used by the coach & the game plan being played then he has to take the consequences.

It's all well & dandy to speak your mind & have your say but in a football team/club the head coach is boss & if Nigel had come out at a team meeting to say he had lost confidence in the game plan or the way he was being coached then what else could Gary Ayres do ??

Come on Stiffy. Its Nigel Smart. The most out spoken player in football. Hes overly confident (this comes across as sheer arrogance) and he has stated numerous times that he is his own person and that he has never taken in what any of his coaches have ever had to say.

It should come as no surprise that Nigel would have piped up if he thoguht something was wrong.

.

Could you give some dates etc to the above quote ?

No surprise at all regards to Nigel having his 2 bobs worth & it's no surprise that the coach had the final say as well.

Talking Footy last year.

Said something along the lines of that he doesnt really care what any of his coaches have had to say and that he goes out and does his own thing anyway.

I thought Smarty's brother made a bit of a fool of himself. As soon as he was questioned about what he was saying he back pedalled quickly and at one stage said he hasn't even discussed it with Nigel.

I fear the end is nigh for Niguel Smartchez.

Correct, he did do that.

BUT, that's a bit like when a judge says "the jury will disregard that last remark"

It's been said for a reason, and been heard.

Sounds like a fair bit of pettiness from both sides.

As a senior player, I feel that Smart has the right to question aspects of the game plan. He doesn't have the right to refuse to follow it. If the coaching panel can't defend "in this situation, why A and not B", they haven't thought through the game plan very well. IF there is any truth at all (and I emphasise IF) in the suggestions that Smart was dropped for asking questions, I'd be appalled in the match committee.

On the other hand, if Smart does have a grievance with the coach, he needs to deal with it in house - not via his brother on talkkack radio.

I think you will find that Nigel is pretty angry with th ewhole episode. And believe me Jason got a bit of lip from Nigel yesterday.
