Night time training

Any one else see this?

About bloody time.

Voss was more concerned about his side's poor handling against the Suns, and has rescheduled training this week to include two evening sessions to give players more practice under the humid conditions they can expect

For years this has been a topic of discussion among supporters, and a move that was sorely, and obviously needed. We have heard a myriad of excuses why it could not be done, but it seems is all that was needed was the coach to call for it.

About bloody time.:thumbsu:

Best of all, I finish at 3pm on Fridays. Gives me plenty of time to get to training from Oakey!

Now all I need is petrol...

About time !!! Because of the conditions up here, the Gabba is one of the only places where we get such conditions, why we don't train in the same conditions to make it an advantage i'll never know.

Other clubs down in Melb don't really need to do night time training because the night games are still pretty much dry, they don't get the humidity which causes the dew on the grass up here.

Love the gabba but its just so frustrating to see players from both teams fumble a wet ball and dry conditions is there such a thing as a wet weather ball?

Gee, why hasn't anyone thought of this before? rolleyes.gif

Hmmm, these cut n pastes sound familiar from last years first Q clash Rip?

I read somewhere on here a week or so ago that we do not for all manner of reasons, which I didn't agree with, including being away from families etc. I understand the cost implications with turning on the lights, but I agree, surely some training sessions are scheduled at similar times to games.

Having lived a stones throw from Subiaco Oval for 7 odd years, they regularly had the lights on for various training sessions and rendered having to turn the back lights on when going outside when on.

MR Ripper;
All skills (ie outdoor) sessions are in the mornings. 10am more often than not.

Adey115:
Well clearly the answer is pour some olive oil on the hands, and a wheelie bin of new sherrins and water, for those 10am training sessions.

'Acclimatisation' - if we're going to play 10 games or so at night at the Gabba this season, then recreate the same environs I say. Make the ball slippery.

No use having great sunny day dry weather skills, when half your games are in slippery condition at night.

Or maybe I'm a brain surgeon / rocket scientist....

Agree with everyone. May have taken a few years but we got there. In this profession there is absolutely no good reason this can't be done and am pleased to see them give it a go.

One other thing is training at the Gabba, now I know they sometimes do the Friday kick to kick session for an hour and they dont really like training on the Gabba due to the surface, but can someone tell me if they train at all at the Gabba? I would have thought it would be an advantage to have at least 1 full day training there to get used to the grass, the angles, pockets etc. Or is the surface actually that bad that they dont want to risk it?
