I love this band.

Though I will admit that their influence is overrated at times, they have some super songs. I can't help but imagine what Nirvana would sound like if they were still around nowadays.

Favourite Nirvana songs would have to be In Bloom and Rape Me.

Discuss.

Never heard of them.

Actually I was a big fan of Nirvana back when they were around and had all their albums but I don't listen to them much anymore. That loud grunge sound doesn't really do it for me like it used to when I was younger.

Prefer listening to their unplugged album more now as it's more laid back and some of their songs actually sound better acoustically, like Come As You Are.

Would have been interesting to see where Nirvana would have gone had Cobain not turned his brains into wallpaper. Got a feeling they would've worn out their welcome like a lot of the big 90s bands of that era and taken the gloss of their legacy had they put out more albums. I doubt they would have stayed together much longer though anyway and Cobain probably would've struck out on his own or formed another band like Dave Grohl did. He was an immensely talented songwriter though and it was a shame to lose that talent so early.

Enjoyed them much more live than on record. Glad they broke up when they did though.

Favourite song would be Negative Creep or Dive

Yeah Dive is just an alternative rock masterpiece.

Kurt didn't seem like the type to like/crave attention. I think he hated it. Doesn't mean they couldn't have sold out in the future.

Almost perfect band imo. Good songs, talented writers, admirable attitudes and they never had the chance to sell out.

Was a massive Nirvana fan between the ages of 13 and 15 and I still enjoy them, however I can more easily see the flaws in their music nowadays and take them for what they were.

Kurt's songwriting was the aspect that confused me the most. His lyrics were strange, he often used broken metaphors and their songs could be ambiguous and completely nonsensical. He had a good ear for melody though and I thought that was by far his best trait.

I like their rhythm section as well. Krist doesn't get enough credit especially on songs like Lounge Act. Really cool bassline.

In Utero is my favourite album by them. Frances Farmer.. and Pennyroyal Tea are sweet.

Really like a lot of the songs on Incesticide too (Sliver, Son of a Gun, Molly's Lips, Aneurysm etc).

Was always awesome when Kurt would scream too. His voice was dope.

was a big fan of them between 94-96 or so.

i share the same sentiments of a few of the views in this thread in that i wonder how they would have gone if kurt hadn't of died, but it meant nirvana didn't have the chance to turn rubbish. really enjoyed all their albums and my favourite songs are negative creep and lithium. really would have loved to seen them live and play negative creep. the sound for that song on the video 'live tonight, sold out' sounds ridiculously chunky and intense.

Extremely influential! musically and also their personality.
Most die hard fans would have read the book heavier than heaven or just general biographies on Kurt and the band and its actually really interesting as to how big they actually became and the road to get their from living under a bridge.
Wish they could still be peforming today as I believe their music would still be very similiar.

Saw them live in '92 at this gig

Their music is something I only listen to occasionally now but it still has a great feel and power to it. I love Dave Grohls work also.

As for Kurt, I think his voice would have been f***ed after a few more years. You can't scream like that and keep it up.

If your a Nirvana fan i highly recommend watching and buying 'Live at the Paramount', especially on blu-ray.
Whoever remastered it, did a masterful job, great quality both picture and sound.

My favourite song would have to be 'Breed'.

Incesticide is a great album !!:thumbsu:!

Still have heaps of their songs on shuffle. Easy to play on guitar as well. Good fun.

Nothing can quite describe the hype that surrounded Nirvana back in the day. It was BIG. I remember when smells like teen spirit broke out. It's like my entire year at school lost their shit to this band. Blew the Motley Crue's, Skid Row's and Warrants (still good bands) out of the water, completely. It was an overnight changing of the guard.

Rape Me sounds too much like 'Smells like teen spirit' for me

I remember seeing an interview with Kurt and he was talking about lyrics. He was saying that the lyrics meant shit and it was the sound of the music people liked. So true.

In Utero is also my favourite album

the concert is awesome, grohl was an absolute machine with a minimalist kit. and what about the go-go dancers...

but you might be talkin up the video and audio a bit. the video transfer cant really be tinkered with that much from the original to full on blu ray HD as we'd expect.. but who cares, the show kicks arse. :)

Extremely influential band. Kurt was a genius, pity he was flawed with the incessant need to destroy his mind and body. Almost tore the band apart numerous times before he finally ended it.

I'd recommend anyone interested to read "This Is A Call". Unauthorised biography of Dave Grohl's life from birth right up until "Wasting Light". He was also put on this earth purely to play music.
