with number 1 yo don't go for what is needed you go for the best avaliable player and i think that is gibbs, there is going to be ruckman at pick 50 that can no doubt be good as leaungmere in future.

The only other player I would consider would be Leuenberger, but that would only be if Gibbs suddenly broke down with a long term injury.

It's not whether or not the others are great potential numbe rone picks, but Gibbs appears too be too goood too pass, similar to Murph last year.

We just need too use picks our picks 1, 17, 19 and 35 ? well and use a later one or two picks on a U18 ruckman and maybe a recycled VFL, SANFL, WAFL ruckman or a Clarke Keating etc

Someone worth a calculated risk.

From an outsiders point of view, GO GIBBS or the best midfielder. You don't need a star ruckman to win a premiership (although it helps!), but you need excellent midfielders. Good midfielders should have the ability to read the oppositions ruck taps, so it really negates their influence. Draft history shows you can get a fairly decent ruckman further down in the draft. Maybe with a late or your second 2nd rounder.

If both Gibbs/Hansen & Gumbleton are equal and all boxes are ticked, then most would say Key Position is the man. Hansen seems to be more versatile than Gumpy so Hansen is the man.

All boxes must be ticked though and kids must be equal, else TAKE THE BEST AVAILABLE everytime.

Best Available= Gibbs.
Too many times in our history have we stuffed around with low/high (whichever way you want to look at it), and picked up duds ie Murray Vance and Luke Livingston.
Surely, we will get it right 2 years in a row for once and pick the best available player.
Aussie joe is spot on saying no use having a ruckman if no-one to tap too.
There will be a ruck lower in the draft.
The game has changed so much now that you need little fellas running carrying the ball, look at the Bulldogs, I think that Leuenberger will be a gun but Gibbs will be more valuable in the long term, I really hope he is serious when he says he will stay at the club that drafts him and be a 1 club player.

Best Available= Gibbs.

I don't think anybody knows for sure who's the best in this draft. i know Mojo still rates Hansen as the best and that means a fair bit more then 100 people saying Gibbs is the best when they have never even seen him play but it doesnt matter who we take we wont know if we made the right choice or not for another 4-5 years.
Also if we go by form then Gumby would probly be the best player but nobody seems to mention him at all because we already have enough forwards so i think the whole take the best available is a bit of a myth unless there is a real standout which there doesnt seem to be.

Hansen could be an option if Thornton leaves the club. Although having Murphy and Gibbs in the midfield would be tempting to start getting something to work around.

Leunberger as well offers something to Carlton but not sure you guys would want to use number 1 pick on a ruckman.
