I brought up a thread a few days ago about Leuenberger being our no 1 pick.

I have just got new news and after Gibbs released the statement when he said that he will be loyal to whatever team picks him up apparently he is now Carltons no 1 from this source.

This is great news for all Blues supporters:thumbsu:

Just covering all bases here aren't you champ.

Hughes doesnt have to make his mind up now

As Hughes has said in the media numerous times, there is no clear standout at number one. Why is everyone so sure that Gibbs is the standout? You seem to take Mojo's word for everything else yet disregard his comments that there is no clear number one

Good news if true. Just out of curiosity how reliable do you rate yor source? Is it from inside the club or from someone who has a lot to do with football ect?

From a former Carlton player, but now involved elswhere in the AFL.

"The no#1 draft pick isn't absolutely decided yet (about a week ago now).
....
Bryce Gibbs will be a Craig Bradley quality type of player.
......
At least 2 clubs have rated WA draft prospect Leuenberger in their top 2."

I am assuming one of those two clubs who highly rate Leuenberger is Carlton given my sources connections.

My question to Blues fans is whether or not you think the club could possibly pass on Gibbs, given the fact that he is a "sure thing" and young ruckman take so long to mature, even quality Ruckman like Leuenberger. FWIW I have heard that Leuenberger has shown more promise than any drafted ruckman since J Fraser.(not the same source)

Are Carlton in the position to take anything other than the safe bet in Gibbs?

A far more sensible post than True_blue 91's, this is the sort of story that is believable and that carlton fans reading this board should look to, congratulations Mick. For mine, I would suspect that we have Gibbs a bees d**k ahead of Leuey and Hansen at this stage. The thing that may get him over the line is his immediate impact off the field (e.g. marketing, sponsors, members next year) as well as probably having an immediate impact on it. IMO this is not a factor to be undervalued when rebuilding our great club.

You're right, he already has name value and if we take Leuenberger, Gumbleton or Hansen we'll be constantly second-guessed on that decision. If we take Gibbs then we don't have to deal with that and we get that instant marketing boost. I think Mitch Thorp is unlucky not to be grouped with those guys too by the way. It's only because he didn't play division one.

Mojo has wanted Hansen all year and that has not changed yet. However, IMHO, Carlton will still pull the trigger on Gibbs come draft day. :thumbsu:

Remember mojo is just a mug punter like us, although i have to say a much more up market mug, maybe the holy grail of mug punters.

We need the player that can come straight in next year and help us to start winning games and that player is Gibbs.:thumbsu:

Gibbs is the most talented player in this years draft. Was an easy decision a year ago, a month ago, a week ago, now, and on draft day. Our energies need to be directly toward picking up stars from our other picks. :)
