No Excuses

Well like most of us I have witnessed 25+ years of excuses and reasons as to why we have sucked and quite frankly the time has come for the players and the club to either put up or shut up. They have been talking things up over the pre season especially with the recent Brown & Johnson interview where they said they were aiming for finals. So in this thread I am declaring that I will not be making excuses for them in 07. Litterally it has come to this:

If they are good enough they play finals. If not then I don't want to hear about tough draws, injuries or any other bull******** excuse.

They won games last year without Brown and Richo up forward. They won games after Cogs got hurt, they even won after Newman went down. So they have shown they can do it. Only thing is they need to believe it and do it more often. So if llike me you are sick of the excuses then pledge your support to not making excuses for them in 07 and like I said if they are good enough they will deliver.

What i find interesting is that Greg Miller came out a few weeks ago and said words to the effect that finals weren`t on the radar this year .

As I said good on them for stating the goals they have setfor the team but I don't want to hear them coming out later in the year and saying we could still be a chance if this goes our way, or we might have made it if Player X was not injured. Just get your heads down, and focus on getting the club back into some September action

I remember once on Club corner, Des Ryan just throwing his hands in the air as if, I cant defend this ******** anymore.

As for giving Gaspar a chance to play finals, he is one player that has never won over supporters and will so quickly forgotten.

Chasing the big bucks like he did is something he will never rid himself of.

Apparently people were up in arms about Kellaway left off in favour of Gaspar. Two guys who have very different perceptions about them.

I remember a time when Gaspar and Ash McIntosh (WC) were the best two defenders in the comp.
I like Gaspar but I think Kellaway would have been a better choice to hold onto.

Surely it's better if Miller says Finals arent on the radar and you guys make the 8, then if he says "No excuses, we're gunning for finals" and you finish outside the 8?

Same thing with Hawthorn, I'd love us to make the 8, but I'm not expecting it. Somewhere around 8-10 would do for this coming season for me. I'd rather be surprised and excited than disappointed

Membership is a big key here though, Richmond have a big fan base they would love to turn into a membership supporter base.

Was he even held in that high regard though Sith? At his best, he was still just a scragger who mauled and pinched and punched like SOS, but had about 10% of the delivery skills of SOS. Even at his best, every time he got the ball we'd all close our eyes to avoid the inevitable turnover. One of the only players I've seen miss-hit 3 handballs in one match without pressure.

As 1980GVF said, we owe him nothing, we've paid his mortgage.

there should be no more excuses we have the list and injuries shouldnt matter unless we lost bowden brown and richo those 3 are prob the only matchwinners for us
the rest can be covered

deledio and tambling are training the house down too
and we dont have any serious injuries
cogs newy and thursty are all training again and will be ready somewhere near the start of the season

Not sure about that, it is time that young kids like Schulz, Pettifer and co stop relying on these older blokes to get uis across the line. We won games last year without Brown or without Richo. Yes they are stars but if we can start winning games when these guys are not available then when they are the side will be all the better.

If I was Wallace I would not play Richo or Brown in the NAB Cup first up. Let the kids go out and try and win without them if they win the confidence on the group soars, if they get close you can still take positives out of the game in that the kids got so close. Get flogged and it is a real wake up call, after all we are playing the Cats and they will be as desperate to win the game as we will be. It would be a great test for the young kids to stand up and make a name for themselves.

Still no excuses why they can't start winning games without these 3 being in the best 6 players then we are along way to becoming a very good side. If we are still going to rely on them for the next 2-3 years then we are going nowhere.

not saying we need to rely on them just saying they are our 3 most important guys
