Much was said last year about the Docker's vaunted no-name backline.

While we don't have a Polak or a McPharlin I'd suggest that with players like Selwood, Staker, Nicoski, Lynch, Waters, Wirrpunda, Chick, and Glass et al (but not Carroll), we have the makings of potentially a very good backline.

And, dare I say it, our spine might not be that far away either.

Round 16 last year Eagles supporters were optimistic about being a real premiership threat then Port found us out.

Let's not read too much into the Harry Potter cup, but look for consistent improvement in the young individuals, consolidated performances from the team itself.

I'd like to see how we go further on into the season and the start of the season proper itself.

That said it is quite an exciting period as an Eagles supporter.

This Carroll bashing is getting out of hand. For such a big hack, he's done pretty well to play 70-odd games.

I agree. It often astounds me how hacks get games. Then I remember clubs like Freo, Port, Brisbane, and yes, even West Coast in their early years ensuring hacks, particularly KPP hacks got games.

We are having a bit of fun.

The bottom line is that I, and some others, think that he is probably one of our worst talls and probably has a lot less scope of improvement then just about any tall on our list. In turn I have a right to express this just like anybody else.

Alternatively there are people on this board that do not like Quentin Lycnh and take every possible opportunity to derride him. Yet they are entitled to their opinon, even though its wrong :D, and I am glad that they feel open enough to share it.

Carroll has been very lucky to play 70 games as we had one of the worst backlines during his tenure and now his time has passed and there are bettter players that desrve their opportunity.

It was a wake-up call, which highlighted the final ingredient that was missing.

It has been addressed.

Excuse me we are the No Name Backline and under copyright law I request you desist from this unauthorised use of the term without my direct written approval.

Could I suggest a few alternatives -

The No Name Starlight Express
Hootie and the Unknown Defence
The No Name Backline previously containing a Carroll

Quite right Dasler. I'm not basing my asessment on one wizard cup game - even if we were to win the pre-season comp IMO it counts for absolutely zero.

I guess my point relates to the hoped-for emergence of a new crop of young players who may be about to put their potential into practice. We've had a real problem with the backline, the lack of KPPs over the past few years so its gratifying to see some players starting to show their stuff on the field - even if it is very early in the day.

The idea of having a reliable spine and backline, coupled with our Porsche Turbo midfield has me excited.
