No trading this year?

Firstly.......Judd was a trade..........and it is way too early to give Naitanui up in a heartbeat for an aging midfielder that will probably be worn out by the time we are ready to take the next cup home. :D

Straight swap... heartbeat, the only other guy with the abilities of Judd that isnt Judd would be Ablett. And if the cats said they wanted Naita for Ablett... my heart would stop beating!

Secondly if another Judd type player just happened to "pop-up" he would demand more than our imaginary PP. ;)

But if he did you wouldnt at all entertain the thought of trading for him?

I'm with Bod - if there is a 21/22/23 year older player available that fits or fills a hole take him we have enough players to trade the other way without it costing us two much.

Also with woosha signing for 2 years with a task of making the finals I think it is more likely we would trade if the right player/s were available.
I would like us to actively seek available players next year and I think Woosha will do that to maximize the team performance in 2011.

This draft has a core of top line youngsters available and our depth over the next decade will be better if we get another couple of high draft picks.

Without naming anyone, I would be excited if we drafted two players in particular.

Agree
McKinley need only get fitter and work harder and he will be very good. Sharp shooters don't grow on trees.
Rosa is much maligned at times but he is a keeper ATM. I would bet that Rosa gets better next year.
Spangher is borderline, love his attack on the footy at times but worry about decision making and footy smarts. By the end of next year (23) if he has not improved enough then he will be ripe to trade.

I was all for trading Rosa and Spangher but looking at the list we have now we are devoid of talent in there age bracket. I rekon due to that fact alone and Hunter/Jones either injured or not performing Spangher will be retained on the list. Rosa I dont have much love for but he is also in that age bracket and could get better as the years go by, he isnt seriously pathetic or anything.

I think you may live to regret this comment in the near future.

Would be tempted, very tempted, but No.

When we are ready to challenge in 2012-2015 Juddy will be 29 - 32. Ablett 28 - 31.
Naitanui will be 22 -25, so if he has a core group of gun players the same age we could be the yardstick for quite some time.

Both these two players would be past their best when our young team is arriving at the window of opportunity. Worse we would have lost high draft picks and a young gun along the way.

haha probably Naita is uber exciting, more so then any draftee we have had since Judd and Kerr.

I think we have derailed from the previous few posts. I probably wouldnt trade for Judd or Ablett now, but in Carltons position when Judd had just turned 24 I would.

Dont get me wrong I have very strict guidelines for trading picks for players. I wouldnt get anyone over 23 (unless its Judd quality and they wernt over 25), the player would have to be a genuine rising star or established gun and I wouldnt accept the trade if we had to break the bank to get him. Theres a few blokes from Adelaide and North that fit into the category and if they became available Id look at a trade.

And once again only if we got a PP in this draft would I look to trade because we would still have at least 1 pick in the first round of the draft. If we only had a first rounder and no PP I wouldnt trade it.

Would we consider trading for someone like Goldsack? he is a medium defender that plays on talls and smalls. Someone that we need. I think we could trade Staker or Spangher + round 3/4 pick. thoughts??

I reckon with next year's draft being compromised by GC17 it will be harder to trade players for high draft picks.

Also there has been some discussion about the depth quality of this years draft so trading a depth player for a late 2nd or third round may not add value. I guess some analysis of this will be done as due diligence by clubs.

In reality i think that we are more likely to be able to trade players for players. Like Staker or Seaby for fringe players from another team.

If Waters was in the team from the start of this year the need for a guy who can play on smalls would be less. Waters, Nico, Hurn, McKenzie will start to lead the defence in the next 2-3 years. If Hunter and Glass are still around they will take the other tall positions. Then we have the youngsters in Jones, Smith and Scooter coming through as well.

I dont really see the need for backmen in the 22yr old age bracket, as we drafted allot of quality backmen around our premiership year and also this year.

We need quality midfielders... thats what we need.
