on footy classified last night it was revealed that the umps paid a visit to hird and told him what they were/wernt paying as frees absolute b/s if true was dimma told ? not by the way we played he wasn't DISCUSS

Must admit, I was thinking this as well.
Surely the umpires also paid a visit to Dimma before the game to let him know also.
Will be interesting to see if this plays out in the media at all over the coming days/weeks.

Lets be serious here. Lost because we played as badly as we have all year. Bombers were rubbish most of the first half too. They stepped up and we didn't.

That, in simple terms, is why we lost. Nothing to do with umpiring.

agree was there but several frees that were paid not paid made a difference to momentum could we have turned it around ? no idea but im heartly sick of frees paid only one way if its a free BOTH SIDES GET IT NOT JUST ONE !!

no the way it was put was that he got a visit and insight on what was wasn't a free if we had same no prob BUT DID WE ?

Clubs seeking clarification regarding umpiring "interpretations" has been around forever. Nothing wrong with it. We've done it, as have all clubs. St Kilda's turn this week. We visit them/they visit us...whatever....! Non issue.

in THAT situation no issue correct. way was put is hird was TOLD what they were/wernt paying. massive difference to clarification don't you think ?

Play like horse shit, the scoreboard is going to look like horse shit. That's all there is.
agree totally !! im only pointing out what was said last night sounds very much like golden boy was given special treatment didn't need it we wernt up to the job. BUT I point out in a genuinely close match knowing what you can get away with could just prove the diff.

I agree that both teams should be treated fairly regarding umpiring decisions.. But that's just the way the cookie crumbles in the AFL.

Always wanted to use that saying :D

I don't think the umpiring dept seek out specific coaches or clubs and give them advice. I just don't think that happens.

So Hird sought out the umpires to seek clarifications of the rules?
way it was reported hird got a visit letting himknow what was was not going to be paid MASSIVE DIFF if only one side got that visit. all tha aside though bombers were shit. but we were worse.

Why do people bag out the journalistic integrity of media shows, until believing the spin suits their argument?

Of course they are going to try to make it look bad. If Dimma asked to speak to the umpiring department, and Hird hadn't, they would have MADE IT LOOK like Richmond were being given special attention. Had it been the other way around, you would be suggesting it was just bad presentation of the facts to make Richmond look like the bad guys.

Doesn't for a second mean that they were.

The sound bite from Hird definitely made it sound that way, while Hirds words were that they were told "We will only be paying the obvious ones.", it was immediately pre-match and the question still hangs on if the Tigers were also told. If not, then the Bombers go in with a distinct advantage knowing they can push the envelope, do the sneaky little things and get away with it. Whereas the Tigers go into the game thinking that the Tiggy touchwood umpiring of prevous weeks was still in place and go in with that touch more caution. Get blown in the first, lose confidence and game over.

Note that I am not advocating that it did cost us the game - just that the practice is dodgy if it occured the way it has been portrayed, and that the effected team would have a right to feel hard done by.

thank you my point exactly. correct didn't cost us the game as I said in a previous post. in a tight game just might have.

The way it was reported by who? As i said it was all over the radio on the weekend that numerous clubs/coaches were informed.

This thread is a beat up, nothing more. Time to move on.

All im saying it has been reported "before" the hard hitting Footy Classified that numerous coaches and not just Hird were informed.

Sounds like a beat-up... all clubs and coaches would generally have this sort of brief.

The more pertinent point is why are Essendon even still relevant this season?
Should be on the bottom of the ladder with zero points.

When are ASADA & AFL actually going to announce something about the investigation.... 2025?
