Congratulations to Ed and Zach who have been named as our nominated rookies for season 2012. :thumbsu:

Not a surprise given that they both played senior football in 2011, and both played very well at times.

This isn't ground breaking news and most would have seen it coming, but it has been made official.

I haven't done my best 22 for round 1 just yet, but it would not surprise in the slightest if both Ed and Zach were in Navy Blue against Richmond. Regardless, with this nomination I do expect to see them both a fair bit at senior level throughout season 2012.

Ed Curnow and Irishman Zach Tuohy will be available to play senior football in round one after the club named them as its nominated rookies for 2012.

Good on the guys. They bloody well deserve it and if things were possible, should have already been on our main list.
Won't be able to hold them off next year though.

These guys aren't built for failure.

Just on that, even though it's a long way off, it will be interesting to see who gets the chop to let these two onto the list proper.

Minimum 3 players must be cut each year. You can use the vacancies to elevate rookies, but 3 senior slots must be opened each year.

No Brainer ..... congrats boys, I am sure the major reason they were not elevated this year is based more on economics than the draft depth.

As for who they would replace on the list next season, it should not be hard. There are up to 10 players who will be in line for trade or delisting, depending on performances this year. It is quite remarkable, as we undoubtedly have a deep list of candidates for best 22. Unfortunately that list is not overly well balanced, we need those back up talls. We need another (developing/back up) ruckman through the rookies, at least.

I would suggest that, after NAB performances, and a year of development, Dale will be in line to join Curnow and Tuohy on the main list next year. Levi has work to do, but has shown flashes.

With free agency coming in to vogue, the mid range players not getting a gig will be trying to grip on to a greasy pole. Available room in the cap will be a key. I expect players 35 to 48 to be virtually all "rookies"

My retirement/delisting/trade plausibles currently shows:

- White
- Mclean
- Thornton
- Kerr
- Bower
- Collins
- Casboult
- O'Keeffe (sadly, surely on his last year)
- Carter

(No Scotto: think he'll wait for a serious flag tilt, same with Thornton maybe)

Tuohy and Curnow's form this year should demand elevation and with a non GWS/Suns dominated draft we'd certainly be on the lookout for some midfielders this year.

I'd say so, as would Thornton so there's 2 spots.

He wont be eligible until 2014. .. He would have played 10years after this year (I think, when was he moved off the rookie list?) however he wont be 30 until November 2013 and the cut off is September. .. I think he misses out on eligibility by 16days, which is a shame as it might be the difference between retention and delistment and he deserves more. ..

Scotland sadly will also not be eligible until 2014
