Except one team has one of the youngsters side in the AFL and the other is meant to be contending for the premiership after trading their 1st rounders for a bunch of missing links who are hardly quality players.

You need more than a midfield to win games and finals.

We had that in 2005 and 2006 with Roo, McLeod, Goodwin, Edwards. No flags, no GFs.

We were still far better than this current Port squad though, finished top in 2005 and were 14-2 at one stage in 2006. Also actually beat decent teams and didn’t just bash up on the bottom few.

Port have had a lot of hits and a few break evens in trade week the last 10 years or so, but last year will go down as when they finally lost the plot.

BZT and Ratugela are terrible and complete liabilities. You can carry one, maybe, but not both. Port would be better playing their undermanned defence they did last year who at least gave honest tries.

If they don’t dominate the midfield, their defence gets exposed. They need to cut their losses and drop one if not both but that would mean admitting they got it wrong.

It’s not even hindsight, either. Everyone knew they were chasing potatoes.

They gave up their first rounder after splitting it for these two if I remember correctly…

Both SA clubs are hot garbage.

Long term same issues.

Assistant coaches SA guys or lived here before and occasionally guys who have been rejected by the 10 Vic clubs with no SA ties ie Rahilly.


Plus our lack of developing SA kids. The talent pool of South Australians in the AFL is shallow.

Yes both clubs have recruited non SA players, but only those rejected by their home State first.


Plus both head coaches are good blokes, but dud coaches.

Actually our home games are nearly at 2019 levels.

Interestingly our overall home and away crowds are at a historical high and helps with away games against Collingwood, Carlton and Fremantle @ Optus. On the negative side we played @ Gold Coast and Kangaroos. Will still have Essendon and away Showdown to come.
