I like old movies, that were slow burns, with great stories .....not sure the current generation could sit thru "Lawrence of Arabia" or "Gone With the Wind"
If you're interested in expanding your horizons - and since you don't mind black & white films - I suggest checking into Criterion's (and most film publications') most revered Directors of all time: Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, Andrei Tarkovsy, Ingmar Bergman, Carl Th. Dreyer, Luis Buñuel etc. Fellini's 8½ and Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev are two of my favourite films.

WaynesWorld19 i know you religiously avoid Aussie movies, flicking through Foxtel and Kenny is on. Surely you’ve seen it, if not, you should at least give it 15 minutes.
Never watched it & never had the slightest desire .....I just find a lot of Aussie Humor cringeworthy

I did watch "The Gentleman" tonight .....not everyone is into Guy Ritchie directed films .....but absolutely loved this

It’s pretty unique and a very funny and ultimately heartwarming flick. You’re missing out.

Probably is ....but I just have a mental block against Aussie stuff, in general .....that said, I loved Predestination, because it's a favorite subject matter

lock stock, snatch and rocknrolla would all rank pretty highly among my favourite. Always watch them if I’m flicking through channels and come across one.

I've seen the first two, but not rocknroller .....enjoyed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword ....but it was panned by the critics, because of Ritchies approach to the story
Also enjoyed Ritchies two Sherlock Holmes movies

Both Holmes’ were good, not sure I’ve seen King Arthur. Man from UNCLE was enjoyable too. When I googled his list, that’s all I’ve seen.

I gave Gone with the wind a go. I watched it, but it left me with that overwhelming feeling of what the hell was that about?? Loved Casablanca though.

Then you’ll absolutely hate Lawrence of Arabia ...... There’s some great actors , Humphrey Bogart (casablanca) ... rarely made a bad movie

Cary Grant made some of the best comedies of the 40’s and 50’s

Spencer Tracy, James Stewart, early Jack Lemmon comedies were some of the best films ever .... just brilliantly written

Many of the 70’s and 80’s films were boring .... obviously some brilliant ones too

North by Northwest was my favorite Grant movie.

Were you a fan of Taylor Tinker Soldier spy? Probably my favorite spy movie in a long time (I'm also a huge Bond fan)

Have you seen A Confession (BBC)? Or The Sinner (Netflix) ? both slow burns, I'd rank The Sinner as my favourite crime show for along time.

Martin Freeman in a Confession is fantastic, brought me back to that style of show.

North by Northwest was my favorite Grant movie.
Love that movie ....also
1. To Catch a Thief (1955)
2. His Girl Friday (1940)
3. Bringing up Baby (1938)
4. Father Goose (1964)

Absolutely agree Sinner Season 1 was better than season 2, although oddly i really thought season 2's protagonist was fantastic.

Favourite Bond, tough one.

Of the old lot probably Goldfinger and the man with the Golden Gun.

Casino Royale and Skyfall for the Craig era, but I could be convinced on Spectre.

Anyone else like Lake Placid?

I can't explain why I do

I love that movie, even though it is very, very stupid :D Or maybe BECAUSE it's very, very stupid. It's certainly not great art, but it is great entertainment.

My favourite line is when they're searching for a victim of the crocodile (alligator? whatever). Guy finds a severed toe and holds it up and asks "Is this the man that was killed?", to which the other guy says "he seemed... taller." :D
