Thats an interesting take. The guy who carved the word into the duco of my car would probably disagree. My bad for having a small rainbow flag in my back window of course. Nobody likes an uppity ****** apparently. Oops, the word has no derogatory meaning I forget.
Speaking of forgetting, so did the charming individual who came up to me and my partner on the train last time I was in Melbourne. Holding hands you see. My fault for triggering him, which he let me know by informing me that "he put a ****** like you in hospital just last week." Well thanks for the warning, clearly not directed at me of course.
And then the lady who tried to get the cops onto me and my partner when we took my son to an event. Apparently, as she was keen to express loudly, two ******s with a kid must be pedophiles. I would have loved it if you were there to tell my son why the words didnt have the meaning that it seemed were intended.
Do yourself and me a favour if so inclined. Take your self serving bullshit and shove it somewhere useful, like your date, because gushing it onto this board is not doing much.
I think this is being blown way out of proportion. Yes, words can hurt, but the way this is being framed makes it seem like every use of the word is some kind of personal attack or threat. Context matters, and it’s clear Rankine wasn’t targeting anyone in the examples being discussed. Treating every instance as equivalent to harassment or violence feels overdramatic and risks losing perspective on real, intentional harm.In response to those who think the f-word is no big deal...

There is no usage of the word that Rankine used, in the environment he used it in that would be considered OK.I think this is being blown way out of proportion. Yeh sure but seems like Collingwood got away with calling Heritier ape or making similar inferences so not sure if race was the central issue the outcome would be different. I think more if it comes down to which team was involved/responsible for the slur that dictates outcome.I have no doubt Rankine wasn't targeting or threatening a person he thought was gay, it was likely something done in the heat of the moment, but there are many in this thread that are dismissive of the effects of the f-word. I admit using it when I was young too, it was something that was normal back then but as many acknowledge, it's not normal now.
It's interesting, because if he had said the n-word to Isaac Quaynor the condemnation would be unequivocal. I guess we need a few more years yet before the f-word joins that word on the absolutely never list.
Or suspended bloody Travis Gaspar so we could of replaced him with some other functioning footballerJust imagine if the AFL held their nerve in 2005 and justifiably suspended Barry Hall?
We might have another trophy in the cabinet.
Kudos to them if they actually follow through with this one.
We weren't spoiled for choice with talls heading into that finals series.Or suspended bloody Travis Gaspar so we could of replaced him with some other functioning footballer
His selection exasperated the problem because we also had Sydney’s best player on the ground that day in Michael Gardiner prancing around the mcg….We weren't spoiled for choice with talls heading into that finals series.
Wasn’t the big controversy that we played Gasper over Lynch? We weren't spoiled for choice with talls heading into that finals series.

Wasn’t the big controversy that we played Gasper over Lynch?
Just checked the team, and we played three ruckmen in Gardiner, Cox and Seaby![]()
Gardiner's back was screwed, he couldn't bend over to pick the ball up off the ground. Was embarrassing.Wasn’t the big controversy that we played Gasper over Lynch?

I hope all this galvanises Adelaide and they go on to win it.Collingwood ratting to the teacher because their season is falling to bits.
100%we all know that if Gaff's name was Pendlebury or Selwood he would have been available for a prelim/GF
