So they’re exposed to all the conditioning benefits of an AFL program which includes playing for their VFL side whenever possible

Yep. Couple that with basically a guarantee that you can take your academy players and you can invest in them early and for the long term without the fear of losing them and giving another club a ready made player. Imagine if we did the same with someone like Collard just to see him end up at Saints.

Interesting thought about how that places them in the draft; could this actually make them look.better than they are compared to the other talent in the draft? They may hit the ground running due to accelerated development but their true natural ability may have a lower ceiling compared to players outside academics taken later in the draft who may over take them in a few years? So with they may be forced to pay more for players with lower ceilings?
