I'm tipping Carlton.

The tactical preparation which is Malthouse's biggest strength is particularly significant against sides that are as tactically weak as Richmond have been (our VFL guys getting stuck into Richmond VFL at Calder last year about being one trick ponies).

Stop Cotchin,Delidio,Martin getting the ball then apply heaps of defensive pressure and deny them their run and gun.

As a rule you sit on Deledio and Martin and Richmond are more than controllable. Cothing getting the ball 30 times doesn't really change the result. I doubt Deledio and Martin play in many losses when they get the ball 25+ times.

It will be interesting to see how Martin handles attention. In the past he's not coped.

I'd probably run with Deledio and Ellis. You want to think that Martin has turned the corner but for him it's all about professionalism and fitness (neither of which are his strengths) so he may still be worth putting a lot of time into. I don't really see the value in tagging inside midfielders (who aren't of the Judd, Ablett, Dangerfield, Fyfe inside/out mold).

I'm not sure how were going to go this year but is it just me or do Richmond and Carlton look pretty awful right now? I'm sure it's just the first game nerves but the standard seems pretty bad. :fire:
