Why, because they're getting flattened by the flat track bullies over in Perth? That was ALWAYS going to happen.

As for Geelong, exactly who I thought they were. Can get away with pissing away these big leads against sides like GWS, Bulldogs, Carlton, Richmond & Essendon, but not against Hawthorn. They'll eat you up and spit you out. No excuse when you consider they had 2 days extra break compared to Hawthorn (8 to 6) and Hawthorn were coming back from Perth the week before.

Well.. the good news is that our position in the finals is almost assured.

As an added bonus, the Collingwood vs Hawthorn game is on the Friday night.. so we will know that our place is 'safe' before we play. I would hope that means that anyone who needs a rest is left out of the team. Penalties be damned.

I am not talking about messing with form etc.. but there are a couple that look sore.. and guys like Winderlich or Chappy might also really appreciate the chance to get some zip back in their legs.

Freo need a big win over Brisbane tomorrow to sure up 4th.
Richmond go into the 8 if they win, but need a massive percentage boost to get theirs up towards the Eagles (but by my calculation they'll still be 5% short even if they win by 100).
Swans should sure up a top 2 finish, which could have an effect on their match with Richmond next saturday night.

Next week
Hawks can keep geelong out of the top 2 if they beat the pies, but if the pies somehow pull off a win they can end everyone else's season and stitch up 8th spot on the friday night.
Port v Freo on the saturday arvo will decide 4th/5th, and potentially sets up a derby elimination final if things go to script.
If we beat Carlton we stitch up a 'home' final, but if we lost we can potentially be buffered down to 8th if Richmond beat the Swans depending on percentage.
Richmond beat Sydney and they're in, but if they don't, they need to hope that the Suns beat the Eagles at Metricon AND that the Saints beat the Crows at Adelaide oval. Either of those two sides get up and Richmond very likely get bumped out on percentage (the Eagles and Crows lead the tigers by 11 and 7 percent respectively, so that becomes largely irrelevant tomorrow pending).

only 2 fixtures of little value in the final round


Not quite rines. We need to win on saturday to assure that we don't travel in week one. it'll likely be safe anyway, but Richmond play after us next saturday.

The only way we have that surety going into our game next week is if the saints topple the tigers tomorrow
