The Port/Suns game is an intriguing one for us.

Assuming all other results go as expected, a Port win should see us matched up against Suns in the first week of finals. This would be a much better match up for us that some of the other potential scenarios.

I think this is the 2nd best result from the non-Giants games this round? Best case is Collingwood and Gold Coast both losing as we can then “steal” 4th place by beating the saints.

Gold Coast lost to Port 67-71. Great result for us! we have a great chance now to finish 5th and avoid the Bulldogs if we beat St Kilda!

The winner of Lions vs Hawks will go above us, and the other below us . Unless Freo can absolutely smash Dogs - which won't happen - then they finish below us. Conversely, if Dogs win, they are below us. And Suns will finish below us now too.

So, we should finish 5th. Depending on the Lions-Hawks result, and game %, either Suns or Hawks should finish 8th.

In all cases, we should avoid Dogs. But I'd prefer Freo to knock them out of finals anyway!!

If they finish 4th, and GWS 5th, we would meet them in week 2 after they lose to Adelaide and we beat Hawks or Suns.

Yes, indeed, a lot of media are knocking our ability to win 4 on the trot.

But, you can see it as possible: beat Suns (or Hawks) at home, beat Pies at the G because they're playing below their best, beat Cats at the G because they're our bunny, then face up to Crows or Lions or Hawks in the GF.

It's not easy - it's not meant to be easy to win a GF - but that sequence would be a lot more palatable than some other sequences.

Dogs are leading Freo 29-13 at quarter time. The only 2 teams that I think we struggle against are the Bulldogs and Adelaide, so Freo knocking off Bulldogs works for us. But even if the Bulldogs win, they should end up ahead of Fremantle and Gold Coast and hence we will not have to play them till at least the Grand Final

Even if Fremantle wins they cannot beat us (unless they win by epic margins) as we have a better %.

assuming there is no draw, then the Hawthorn/Brisbane game winner will finish ahead of us, and the loser behind us. Since Gold Coast cannot finish ahead of us if they win Wednesday, and the loser of Fremantle/ Bulldogs is essentially eliminated, we will still be 5th, regardless of Freo or Bulldogs win?

But then our most likely opponents could still be either Hawthorn or Gold Coast? Same outcome if the Bulldogs also win.

a (possible) reason to support Freo (in addition to eliminating the Bulldogs) is that if they win there will be 5 non Victorian teams and just 3 from the VFL.
