Norton

Hi all.

First time poster here.

I was after some help/advice.

I had an up to date Norton anti virus subscription on my previous computer but it died and went to heaven. I saved my hard drive and had everything transferred over onto my new PC but I'm having all sorts of trouble trying to reactivate my Norton.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I could rectify this? I purchased my Norton online via download, so I don't have the CD's to re-install it.

sorry, OT, but when I saw the thread title, I was thinking

"Norton my friend, how would you like to **** me up the ***?
I know you want to **** me, Norton!
And you know that I know that you know that I know that you want to **** me.
Now I'm gonna bend over. And when I do, start ******'! Here I go!
"

Sorry can not specifically help you (search whirlpool forums they will solve this for you quickly) but you can get kaspersky for $12 to $15 on ebay at the moment which is miles better than Norton far as I'm concerned for non free net security and antivirus.

This. Or VIPRE.

Norton is a resource hog and not even that good at detecting malware. Kaspersky, VIPRE, and Sophos are the 3 best AV products on the market right now.

I feel conflicted about the OP's username :(

Current trends have me feeling similar about yours.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I was coming here to post Security Essentials but have been beaten quite comfortably.
SE is the same as Forefront, MS enterprise antivirus solution

Never ever pay for antivirus software. Your paying for bloatware and pop-ups galore.

Uninformed.

There's number of well performed antivirus softwarez out there that don't hog resources and that identify and remove malware (with no pop ups).

Clearly you have been reading Microsoft propaganda.

Sounds to me you're trying to justify to yourself why you spent good money on AV Software when you didn't need to :)

 Do you know what the Virus Bulletin 100 is? Go have a look at it and see what's what.

MS is shit. Free AVG is also shit. Nod32 is also shit.

I get Norton 360 for free (perks of working where i do), and after using all the free alternatives there is no way i'd go back. It is hardly bloatware, and the only popups that ever come up on it are either when a file is scanned as being potentially dangerous, or when a setup file is downloaded it discreetly shows a message in the bottom corner that it is a safe file to run.

It's still by far the best security program around, there's a reason it picks up the awards year after year.

And you can't say Norton is a resource hog anymore. A few years ago it was terrible in that respect yes but they took that on board and have improved it something shocking... so credit where credit is due.

Kaspersky was crap for me, Nod32 was the one i used the most but still crap.

Norton used to be the biggest resource hog, now it's improved.

For a paid antivirus what do you guys reccomend?

i run security essentials, and also a paid copy of malwarebytes. they seem to be playing nice together so far. MWB was something like $35 with a cd delivered from overseas and a lifetime license (less for digital only).

i had some issues with free AV software. avira was good until it sidled up to the kind of stuff it normally deleted (new versions practically force an install of a toolbar). another one... possibly AVG? would tell me there was something incoming and then do nothing about it!

Norton Is a top product these days, well worth the $

that said, I also use SE and have not had any issues so far

OP, If you got the cheapest one it is probably only licensed for one computer. Upgraded a computer once and had the same problem.

I first had Norton years ago and agree with others, it was a pretty average. Since than had Trend Micro for a year, Kaspersky for 2 years and now just recently went back to Norton. I've never had any issues with viruses so I keep on buying them but didnt like Kaspersky at all. Whenever I plugged in my GPS computer for my bike it would ask if I wanted to scan it everytime. When you get this on weekly basis it becomes annoying pretty quick but there was no option to ignore all the time so had to live with it. Doesnt happen with Norton and overall it looks to have improved a lot since the last time I had it.

you can check there sites ig they can give you back or rescue disk from where you can again download since its a 1 year or 2 linecnse so think best option is to search there website
