Every year we only get 2 weeks of Aus open tennis.

While there are 3 other grand slams, its impossible to watch most of it when its on during the night.

This summer there's been a lot of cricket but what I wouldn't mind is a bit more tennis.

Not sure what you really mean.

We do get the tennis coverage also leading up to the Australian Open.

I would love the other three grand slams to be covered as much as the AO is on free to air, however, they'd all be covered late at night and so a lot of it would be impossible to watch like you said.

Or are you talking about masters tournaments etc?

There's warm up tournaments etc but they don't get you interested, the Brisbane one was terrible with the shocking camera angle. It could be that all the players play overseas before the aus open for more money and aren't playing in the Aussie tournaments.

Tennis coverage on Fox Sports is seemingly improving with every year.

All 4 Grand Slams on Fox, every Masters Series tournament, Semi and Finals of a handful of other tournaments throughout the year as they do with a few WTA tournaments.

Plus the commentary for the Masters Series is absolutely brilliant. :thumbsu:

i had fox for the first time in 2008 and the Tennis is absolutely brilliant

every Masters events and the other 3 slams are done magnificently

its because the other grand slams are overseas

the coverage cannot be biased like channel 7 had it when they focussed on alot of australians

wimbledon, the us?

forget about it!

the coverage downunder has never captured the charm of roland garros, i think its a cultural thing with regards to roland garros, i believe we are too offput by the scores being read out in french

Anyone know if Australia's fed cup campaign in going to be telvised either on free to air or fox? Would love to keep track of dokic's progress.

Wouldn't think so, given it's only zonals.

Supposedly nine has Roland Garros this year

^Was the french open on free-to-air last year? If so, how long has it been on free-to-air for?

Must have missed it, as I have only ever followed the french open via the net.

Nah, it hasn't been a few years since FTA coverage, ABC had highlights in 2004 and Seven had the last live coverage on FTA in 2003. Fox exculsively for the last 4 years

Even when 9 had the French Open they just used to show delayed telecasts, and only from the Semi Finals on. I stayed up to watch a particularly good Seles v Hingis Semi Final around 1997 or so, which went to 3 sets, but it was on delay, so Channel 9 played 6-8 ads at every change over. Since then I have fully endorsed sport being on Foxtel, where at least the viewer gets a little respect.

Please don't tell me Nine have RG. :(

But yeah, if you want to watch tennis then Fox is the go. Masters Series, Davis Cup, it is pretty awesome.

how much do you folk pay for foxtel then?
My parents said it was costing them $100 a month when we had it.

No doubt it was great for sport but I'm not disapointed a year on after getting rid of it. I only miss the Super 14 from it. Foxtel without sport is garbage.

The crap thing about pay tv is if u just want sport u have to pay for all the other shit aswell. I'm not prepared to do that. Thankfully we will be getting over 10 tournaments broadcast on FTA this year through tens new 24 hour sports channel OneHD.

Too close to Wimbledon? Crap. If anything, Wimbledon is too close to the French Open. We have an excellent clay season which culminates with the French Open, 3 Masters Series tournaments and another great tournament in Barcrelona. May/June/July is the the best time of year for tennis. We have Masters Series in Rome, Madrid, the the French, Queens and then Wimbledon. The contrast of the clay and grass is fantastic.

This...

People will whinge about sport not being FTA, then when it doesnt get the respect it deserves, complain again.

Fox will cost a fairly low starting amount, but builds up obviously as you add to your account. However, what I cant recommend enough is Foxtel IQ, which is possibly the greatest thing of all time. Tape whatever you want, watch it when you want including skipping what you dont want to see. i.e You might hate the changeover analysis, but like the pregame stuff, watch what you want so to speak. As well as that, live pause is awesome. Pause and rewind live TV. Go out and get/cook a feed while pausing the game, then fast forward the breaks to get back live... Awesome...

About the last post, I would like a longer Grass court season. The short time period between Wimbledon and Roland Garros is a shame because the players should get more time to adjust to the grass IMO... I find grass, with the mix of serve volley and baseliners as well as the unpredictablity of the bounce etc... to be more fascinating then the grind that is clay...

But yes, if you like sport foxtel is a must...
