I don't know about you, but I seem to recall our supporters calling for heads, continuously...

Who are we blaming now?

A guy on SEN said one of his mates switched to Hawthorn after last week, how ****ing weak!!

2011...

We've developed a brand new ruck/forward option. Tyrone Vickery.

We've developed a solid backman, Alex Rance.

We have two rising star nominees who can seriously play, Conca & Bachelor and Helbig along with Grimes look decent too.

We may not have the best live stock in the AFL. But don't tell me a team missing guys like Astbury, Grimes, Morton, Moore & Griffiths for the majority of the year can manage to fill their positions with unlimited depth. Our players may not be great, but we have structures that couldn't be fully utilized because of these injuries.

Having a decent ruckman will boost our performances next season. I want Stefan Martin hopefully, perfect age for us.

We've broken our membership record, made 2.6 million off of nothing, plus 1+ million off selling two games interstate that we lost simply because we werent good enough!! We aren't good enough for finals, even if we won those games, it wouldn't change much.

Even if we were good enough, the AFL limited our travel options because of the trips to Darwin & Cairns, so say we played Port & GC down here, we may have played Freo up there and even Geelong at Skilled...how would those have gone??

I think we are all looking for answers, but the simple answer is this...

We are still blooding kids, trying out guys who want a chance and we are eliminating old guys like Tuck who supply our young midfield with possessions instead of allowing them to fight for the ball themselves.

It's the hard way, and the right way.

eat em alive and keep believing guys, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I don't see how it is relevant?? If someone switches to Hawthorn they were never Tiger supporters anyway!!

Everyone knows a true Tigers supporter is totally hardcore. There is no alternative and the belief never wanes:)!!!

It is only the clock that ticks!!

I've spent last week feeling more bland than I've ever felt before. I was ready to pack it in for the season and, like some other supporters mentioned, follow Richmond from afar for the rest of the season.

I've had a think about that and realised pretty much exactly what you said. Yes we're awful but you're right. You're right about everything. It's the hard way, and the right way.

I'll be there next week, and I'll be roaring as loud as I ever have. The boys need it, even if at times it seems they don't deserve it.

I bumped into a lovely 75 year old women at my work. She's been a member since 1943.

I asked her has she ever thought of changing teams in the last 30 years.

She said, "son, number 11 will be more special than the first 10 put together. I'd rather die than switch right now".

This is a supporter. I admire that lady, rock solid heart of Richmond gold.

That's what separates our club from the rest.

LMAO we will get 40k next year ... bookmark that.

Why? because we are used to being knocked down and bouncing back up.

That's one thing we have over other supporters, we keep coming back no matter how shit we are. That's why Richmond supporters are greater than Hawthorn, Essendon supporters and equal to Carlton and Collingwood because our lot isnt fickle.

Thats why I was surprised with some of the recent negative outburts although obviously us supporters haven't been happy.

Apart from being passionate, Tigers would have to be amonsgt the toughest, hardened strongest supporters going around I would have thought:thumbsu:

It's very hard to take right now but we've had way worse times.

For once the club is being reasonable when it's asking for patience.

The members will keep signing up. It's our lot in life!

That earlier post about the old tiger lady is brilliant btw.

imo in the cold light of day i didnt think this year we would make the finals. i thought that our young mids would continue along there development, our defence will maybe tighten up a bit, and hopefully our fwds except for jack will anounce themselves as potential good players. unfortunately our mids have stagnated badly, is this due to maybe foley coming in and effecting balance, or are they just reactionary due to rucks going backwards at an alarming rate. or is it that lade has taken over the midfield from wcambell. not sure but ultimately i think we're right where we should be at our level of development we have alot of player turnover still to come to weed out the chaff and i think we all want to get to the top as quickly as we can but we must remain pragmatic and stick to the plan. look at melbourne, they are into year 4 with lots of top shelf picks and are still on the upward curve without rocketing up the ladder. patience please tiger supporters, short term pain long term gain.

Haha exactly...I was spewing Saturday and fed up, but the sun (pardon the pun) still came up on Sunday. I went to work today and I had 5 colleagues come up to me and while they didn't necessarily rub it in they were gloating somewhat, it's water off a ducks back these days. Tiger supporter's skin is made of leather, it simply has to be to survive the ups and downs. One of them said I should give up on the tigers and support his club, scumwood. I simply replied "I'd rather shoot myself in the head" and spun back to my desk.

there is plenty wrong, but it can be fixed, it will just take time, its very frustrating at the moment, but as soon as we have a few injuries to key position players and as the season wares on the young guys are going to be tired, particularly after the excessive travel. we have to hang in there and just see it through, i just pray they dont try and take a short cut.

i wasnt exactly sure how the year would unfold however at the halfway point with a string of promising performances and a handful of wins amongst it, I thought we would be in this season up to our necks right up and until R 23/24. Further to that I really thought these growing pains we endured in first nine rounds of 2010 were a thing of the past. before i accept we have gone back 12 months I will defer that jedgement until the curtain has drawn on this year. There is plenty of footy to be plaued and with a 90% strong list to choose from we have plenty of chances to make an impression on our 5 wins

we will win the preseason cup next year and make the finals and the place will go bonkers.

We're tracking exactly where we thought we would be this year.. only maybe a few more wins early and few more losses later in the season.. (which apparently plays havoc with the hormones of pissweak supporters who have a concentration span of a 14 year old girl dreaming of Justin Beiber).

There are different kinds of fickle... our supporters are loyal in terms of attendance and membership, but it shits me to tears how fickle they are with taking the long slow road to sucess. They just cant seem to grasp that it will take time to do it the right way.

Had a similar encounter myself today. Walking past where I used to work, I bumped into one of my regular customers who is also a Tigers supporter.

This guy, Charles is 98 years old, never goes anywhere without his Tigers scarf and Tigers beanie. I mean it too. He never missed a Tigers match at home or away in well over 70 years. This will be his last year of attending matches as his health is slowly deteriorating.

Anyway, I bumped into Charles, still angry over Saturday, and he was back from Cairns. We got to chatting and me being 18 years old, I listen eagerly to every word he says about the Tigers. The stories he tells are magnificent.

Anyway, I told him how filthy I was over our insipid display. As soon as I said I was disappointed, he swore for the first time in well over 60 years or so he says :D

He said: "F*** Me son. WE ARE TIGERS. We are never disappointed. You are 18 years old. Why all the impatience? We will get there mate."

I said to him "I doubt it Charles. I really do."

His reply was "I don't care if I am 110 when we next win the cup. The day we win will be the single most glorious day of my life."

I asked him about living in Melbourne during our power house days of the 60's, 70's and 80's.

He turned around and said those days were great, but we were a powerful team. You always knew when we would win. He said it got a bit of a bore. He then went on to say after all the failures, the pain, the false promises and the heartache we have endured in the last 30 years will be vindicated when we finally snaffle that 11th cup.

He said it is all the failure that will make that eleventh cup the best of the lot.

That is what got me really positive for the next few years.

With that out of the way, Charles told me he had told his Grandson about his funeral arrangements. He wants a yellow and black coffin, with the Richmond Tigers emblem on it, wants the Tigers song blaring as the pallbearers carry him away, and that everyone who attends his funeral MUST be wearing full Richmond apparel. Guernsey, Scarf and Beanie, or no admittance. God I love the old coot :D

Thanks for this thread, no Richmond supporter would ever change teams just think of how you feel when the boys run out in that famous jumper...

The thing is the older you get the stronger it gets, 66 this year and yes its tough and your heart bleeds but when the sweet number 11 comes I want to be at Punt rd singing the song same as the others.

These posts are pretty awesome.. I told my wife the storyof old charles and she even laughed (not keen at all on the footy, but she looks sexy as in yellow and black when i drag her to a game). Its characters like that who make the world a great place to be in. I used to work in a liquor store in sydney and met a very pationate tigers supporter. Every time id see her we'd have a good chat and shed tell me how she was in melbourne last weekend and had been chatting with richo and cuz and the boys.
Gets me pumped meeting die hard tigers in sydney wherre we are few and far between.
Last weekend sucked, but its last week.
Looking forward to "next weekend". Win lose or draw its 10000times better than the offseason!!
Go tiges

People ring into SEN and basically troll. Radio trollers. If they say they're changing clubs to team x, it's usually a team x supporter just taking the piss.

Yep, you can bet your life that 90% of talkback callers threatening to rip upmemberships, barrack for other clubs.

:DJokingly .... albeit a few mates took me seriously ..... I was pretty p#### off with the performance Saturday and told a few people I was with that I was cutting my ties with the Tigers after 40 years an was looking for a new team to follow and was choosing West Coast.
The Eaglesduly came out and were smashed by the Saints and then I realised I might just be the problem!!!
But seriously, even with the lowest of the lows, I could never abandon my team. I have a brother who followed the Tigers through the 70s and early 80s and then switched to Hawthorn midway through 1983. I have never let him forget it or forgiven him.

I guess my real concern for us is, yes we have developed a good key defender in Rance and forward in Vickery and have a few real promising debutantes in Conca, Batchelor and Helbig, but we seem to always be a bit premature in saying so and the developing seemingly stalls.
This time last year Astbury was being hailed a 200 game key defender, Jack was going to dominate the goalkicking for a decade (staggering that he still leads the Coleman), Martin will win a Brownlow or three and there wer good things to come from Nason, Taylor and Dea.
12months is a short time in football and the signs from that 2009 draft aren't as promising!
