Score update for those who can't be fornicated checking Baggy Green.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WA were 9/262 overnight and made it to 275 this morning, Clark out (lbw b.White) for 5. Williams 9no at the end. White finished with 6/66, his first 5-fer at First Class level.

In reply, Victoria are 0/38 in the 20th over. Mott 21, Arnberger 16.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NSW 102, Queensand 190.

NSW off to a steady start, and have nearly hauled in the 88 run deficit, despite losing Slater for 4 in the second over (b.Noffke).

NSW 1/65 in the 22nd over. Mail 26, Katich 20.

Can't believe how slowly Brad Hodge is scoring. I know its important for both he and Elliott to hang around to aide us in getting 1st innings points, but really, 2 off 35 is ludicrous.

And meanwhile, in Perth, the two NSW batsmen are going along at 4 to 5 runs an over!!

Vic 4/245 at stumps on day 2 chasing 275. Hodge finished up 68no off 128 balls so picked up the pace a bit.

NSW finished day 2 on 3/343 a lead of 255. S.Waugh on 107no and Clarke on 106no off 96 balls!

Interesting battle for the final. The Vics hoping first innings points will be enough and NSW looking like being able to set a sizeable target with plenty of time left for the outright victory they'll,most likely, need.

yep, we'll need the outright.

i'll be at the ground bright and early tomorrow and hopefully watch tugga and clarke amass a sizeable lead. whats that.. 4 centuries this year for steve including a double?? michael clarke doing his windies chances no harm either.

I was out at the SCG today - and part of me was expecting the game to be determined outright today. With 20 wickets having fallen yesterday, and then Slater out 2nd ball today, it didn't look like the game would get to the 3rd day.
But only 2 more wickets for the day. Katich, Steve Waugh and Clarke were all very impressive, but it's hard to understand how the ball could have so dominated one day and then the bat be so on top the next. Very strange.

And, being a football site, I could also mention that a couple of interested spectators at the ground today were Amon Buchanan and Heath James.

Hmm maybe... obviously the Vics are favoured to get 1st Innings points against WA, which would have them in the Final if NSW can't bowl out Queensland a second time

BUT

by putting in such a pisz-poor batting performance on th efirst day, NSW have probably done themselves a favour, allowing themselves a lot more time to secure an outright win.

The fact that 14 wickets have fallen in two days in the Vic vs WA game (compared to 23 in the NSW vs QLD game) suggests an outright is more likely in the latter game. NSW are effectively 3/255 with 192 overs of play left (weather permitting). I'd say if that batting form continues tomorrow and there are no interruptions to play, they could bat on until tea at roughly four runs an over, and the target will be set for Queensland to chase 500 in about 130 overs. The first two sessions tomorrow will be crucial.

What did Katich end up with? I couldn't be bothered looking for myself. :p He seems to have got amonst the runs late in the season, although I remember somebody posting that was averaging around 50 at one stage (not sure whether it was Pura cup or ING cup), so he been getting starts but hadn't been going on to make any really big scores.

Bloody hell Slats!!! good to see the other 3 that quacked in the 1st dig made up for it, hope Tug makes another 'daddy' hundred.

Katich made a patient 60. I looked up his season averages this morning and he averaged about 45 for the ING series, and 33 coming into this Shield game.

One thing that isn't getting a much of a mention is the SA vs Tas game.

SA declared today at 6/500 after Fitzgerald made 147, and Higgs smashed 112 off 94 balls. In reply Tassie are in strife at 5/155 (Tait 3/48) with Di Venuto on 80no, and Clingeleffer 1no.

Katich was on 31 when Steve Waugh came in, but at one stage they were both on 37; although Katich got to 50 first.
Strangely enough, Steve Waugh was similar - he was on 54 when Michael Clarke came in, and Clarkey once he came in dominated the scoring. Normally the established batsman would be the faster scorer than the new batsman, but not yesterday.

NSW have lost 5/55 today. Victoria are still in with a chance of getting thrashed in the final :)

After spinners took 8 of the 10 Queensland wickets to fall in the first innings (MacGill 5, Katich 3), MacGill has opened the bowling with Stuart Clark. Both took an early wicket to have Queensland reeling at 2/10.

2/34 now, Love and Nash at the crease, capable of steadying an innings. The middle order is very inexperienced though - first gamer Simpson, fringe player Hopes (whose batting has been very disappointing this season), and the dour but effective Carseldine may well be next in. A lot depends on Martin Love but even so, the task is really ahead of Queensland.

Meanwhile, Victoria well on top in their game, leading by 133 with four wickets in hand. May rule themselves out of an outright if they bat too long though - all WA would need to do is make up the deficit and bat for a lead of about 200 and the Vics could be out of it through lack of time.

I was surprised at the declaration when it came - 390 in 5 sessions was definately achieveable, and then when Stuart MacGill took the new ball I thought it was proof the world had gone mad.
Maybe it was, but it worked. A big outright win and we're through to the final - not a bad recovery after being all out for 102 on Thursday.
