Even if NWM wanted to come to us, we don’t have the draft capital this year to push through a fair deal. He’s worthy of an early 1st rounder, & we simply don’t possess that type of capital unless we give up something significant.

If he wants to come we'll make it work. Everyone said the same about JHF.

I think it would revolve around a future 1st and a young gun like Berry with other value added.

If he decides to come the Saints will get less than he is worth. That's just how it rolls.

Why would Port give up someone like Berry after one season. It would just make the whole decision of wasting a 1st rounder look awful? The whole point of investing in last years draft was to acquire young talent for the future.

The whole entire list management team should resign if that were to happen.

What the **** is this fair deal shit everyone talks about?

When one of our players wants to leave we have to eat a shit sandwich if the other club doesn’t have the capital.

**** em!

Fair…pigs arse.

Nah, it also makes sense to pick up players you know other teams will want in order to trade them for players.

If we’ve drafted Berry KNOWING we would be using him to trade for NWM, I’d personally marry whoever made that decision.

I don’t think for a second we have though.

Thanks for the that.

I seem to remember P Burgoyne doing that a lot but don't remember Josh doing it so much.

Half back is a super important position, idk why people say it's an easy one to fill.

Houston took years to become great at it.

An elite HB that can read opposition zones and defences and find holes in them can basically get you free goals. Farrell, Jones, Burgoyne, Evans do not do that consistently and often kick it back to an opposition player (or out on the full in Burgoyne's case).

Even Rozee is somewhat turnover prone from that position.

Would love to get NWM if he's available, him and Rozee could make us the best transition team in the AFL

Boak basically lost us the prelims last year when being forced to play half back

How much currency would Drew and SPP have? Won’t get much for Soldo and Lord.

Should aim for enough future 2nds and points this year to trade with suns for one of their x3 1sts. They have the usual early academy players to match bids on.

You're going to have to give up something you aren't happy with

Berry being used to get a chunk of the deal done would be well worth doing.

And yes we don't have to get a fair deal done - just one that's reasonable enough that we can pressure the Saints to accept. That's what every other club does to us.

Like others though, I still think Nas sticks it out at Saints for a couple years then we re-visit.

I said Josh Carr, not Adam Kingsley.

It was awful, and they should resign.

We definitely have the trade capital. Don’t forget you can now trade picks 2 years in advance. Next years first and the following will get it done. Especially because we have Dougie and Zemes coming through, that is incredible list management if it happens.

i think it’s moot as i expect NWM is about to sign where he is, but are we even able to trade out next years first without special approval from AFL ?

i thought there was a rule saying we had to use 2 first round picks in and rolling 4 year period. as far as i can tell we used 12 on Sinn in ‘21 and 15 on Berry last year. given this years draft is ‘25 i assume the Sinn pick is on longer relevant meaning we might be hamstrung. maybe that rule has changed a little or maybe my numbers are off.

The new points system for NGA and FS will mean that Port likely need to preserve first rounders to get access to those two if they are likely to be top 5 picks. Hard to predict now, but Port will continue to look silly and desperate for draft capital down the track if they continue to trade away future firsts.
