I know the Saints supporters want to dismiss the idea of the PSD as a real threat, but in this case, the threat does indeed remain real despite a fair few teams in front of Port.

There's a long way to go before we even reach that point. However, when was the last time you saw a player not get to their club of choice via the PSD? The last one I can think of was the late John McCarthy when Port picked him up (he was averse to coming there).

The PSD requires players to set out their requirements for a contract, which is a ridiculous rule, but it allows them to manipulate the numbers in such a way to ensure they get to their Club of choice.

Port are offering a deal which is structured in such a way to be front loaded offering near 2M per season. Based on my limited, but far from zero, understanding of Port's cap situation, I am inclined to believe Port could even further front load such a deal if absolutely necessary.

No team is going to be taking a player on a deal up to 2.5M in 2026 via the PSD. They most likely won't have the cap room to begin with.

Though I don't think it will get to that stage anyway.

NWM and JHF share the same agent. And agents have trends they follow when getting these types of deals done. What's important to remember is that the JHF trade request essentially came out of the blue one Sunday night before the start of trade week. However, all the ground work had already been completed. That is, the player had agreed to terms at Port, he had met with the Club (pretty certain he had his medical done too), and both Clubs had preliminarily agreed upon the framework of what a deal would look like. It was only after the uproar from North fans on the Monday morning that Brady Rawlings contacted one of Crippa or CD (think it was the former) and informed him that the deal needed to be better because their fans were irate. So it took the better part of a week or so to get done, but it never was in doubt to occur.

NWM isn't going to formally request a trade unless his agent has sorted all of the particulars and the general gist of the framework of a deal can be agreed upon.

PSD is basically the AFL's escape hatch for players to get to their club of choice. They even describe it as that

The PSD was introduced as a way for uncontracted and delisted players to be drafted to a club they want to go to. But the introduction of free agency in 2012 has made the PSD all but redundant in an era when delisted players can move to a new home of their choice.

It was set up to get around fears of a restraint of trade court case.

No club would dare to intervene there because the AFL would be telling them not to, or else.

But as others have said, it's very unlikely to get to that stage, something will be worked out. But player managers will still use it as a threat.

How far can players go with nominations PSD contract conditions?

On top of front end loading his contract could he also nominate a contract condition that states at the end of year 1 he has guaranteed right to be traded to South Australia.

No. That would be manipulation of the draft.

He cannot nominate the club that he will go to even a year in advance as a condition in this draft.

Ok. Mate respectfully I’ve pointed out how he can’t get to port via the draft, unless you know a way I don’t?

West coast North Richmond etc all have a plethora of cap space they would use instantly for Nas.
You lot keep saying all these clubs are before Port in the PSD yet fail to understand that if Port have allegedly given a contract that is front ended at $2 million or could be more the first year. Now who's to stop Nas giving his contract terms of $2 million for 1 years contract and what club would be consider that when he is clearly trying to get home to SA for starters and he would leave after that year with a very good payout and for what? to give that club at the bottom no foundation and just an expensive payout? Seriously... Ni club is that stupid and poorly run to even consider it. he would easily get to Port so yes, it is a threat of walking to port for nothing. if you cannot understand and comprehend that then that's on you and all the other saints fans on here.

We are on the same page mate.

Point I was making Nas either matches what Butters did at 22 - AA40

Likely on track to succeed it- first guernsey and a BnF.

He is a very special talent. Hence why you guys want him + are reportedly offering $2m a season for 2026+2027 and your board has a 54 page thread on him.

You might not watch a lot of us.

But he has played a lot of midfield the last 2 weeks. Even gone forward at times. He has looked - sorry to swear on your board.

Andrew McLeod like
Port and we the supporters want him because he literally has ties and links to port ffs not just because of his talent 🤦 he has bugger all ties with saints apart from his step dad playing there BRIEFLY and then wanting to get home to port and saints screwed him over. there are actual ties here at Port.

So long Jack, we hardly knew ye.
