Longer it goes on? He's contracted still and doesn't need to do anything until next year. Because Port can, and i believe already implied, that even though he is a restricted free agent and contract finished 2026, they will match any offer made which would result in a trade having to take place so it wouldn't be just a 1st round compensation pick but a lot more. It makes no sense to trade butters this season knowing that fact.
