Does anyone else feel like getting NAS would help us keep Butters.

All of a sudden we have so much young talent with Cochrane et. al. that the players would have to be confident of future success.
It’s a good point, Butters has previously stated success is going to be a big factor in making his decision about singing an extension.

Getting Nas would be a big boost to our on field talent

Do you know how many times I've heard the names Ryan O'Keefe and Tom Papley in the past month?

ROK and Papley are the well known ones sure.

But you look at Tim Kelly, Rory Lobb, even our own Esava as players who didn’t get the trade the first year they wanted it.

Caroline Wilson on The Agenda Setters, quoted in Fox Sport

“St Kilda has offered Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera more than they have offered any other player at that football club in its history. They seem to think a two-year deal is the best chance of keeping him. They’ve offered him $1.4 million a year over two years,” Wilson revealed on Agenda Setters.

“The complication is his manager, Ben Williams, is telling St Kilda that Nasiah has genuinely not made up his mind. Whereas about three weeks ago the view was he had made up his mind and it was pretty much a fait accompli he would sign on for two years.

“Ben Williams comes to Melbourne on Wednesday, there’s a manager’s conference of some sort. He’s told the club he will be meeting with his player on that day and maybe more will be revealed by Thursday.

The highest offer in their club history........until 2 weeks from now when they offer TDK his reported 1.7-1.8mil per year deal.

This is my expectation. He should be looking at a 1 year deal, wait till we have the capital to get him.
If the Saints want all these top first round picks now and Port don't have trade capital currently, then Port won't next year or year after that either. It's realistically now or never OR 4 years time when he's a restricted free agent but that doesn't help Nasiah if he truly does want to get home now or even sooner than 4 years time. This year would be the only year Port will have any type of currency to trade because 2026 and 2027 will be focused on other players.

I doubt getting NWM will make any difference to what Butters will do, I’m sure he’s made up his mind pretty much and is waiting for the right time to announce it.
Actually the longer it goes on the worse I believe it is for us concerning Butters.
Longer it goes on? He's contracted still and doesn't need to do anything until next year. It's all just been media build up and pushing by the Vic's and Butters has just answered mature enough with truth. I don't believe he's made up his mind at all and is just focusing on playing the sport he loves whilst pushing harder every game like he does. He'll know this season was cooked and next year will be the year. He'll definitely stay on with Port if next season is solid under Carr.

“I cannot align to a world where he would accept a deal that’s $500,000 shy of where Tom De Koning is. His value to that football club is beyond belief!"

Kelly, Lobb and Esava were all still contracted when they first requested a trade to other clubs. Deal didn't get done until the trade period they were out of contract, as the power shifts from club to player.

Just like NWM will be this trade period - if he wants to come to Port, it will happen.

South Melbourne are a strong club. Sadly Port are a weak club (see Houston).

Vic media in total panic, those ugly SA barbarians are at the gates of a little innocent vic club. If we can pull this one off we will be villified in the vic media for years.
Such hypocrisy, but the welcome mat is out for Harley Reid. And happy to plunder Gold Coast.

Getting JHF back to SA worked for both clubs, and VFL clubs are more worried than ever about SA/WA talent as seen by North letting Curtin slip through as they were so worried they'd lose another top player.

Still I'd rather NWM stay at the Saints than go to Port.

The main reason he hasnt singed by now if he was going to stay is due to his value increasing every game.

Funny they think they’d have the currency yet have no picks either. What good players would they give up?

Their first this year is likely to be pushed out to 25+ after academy bids and father sons.

And their future first would likely be 15+ again with NWM added to their team and Rankine, curtin, Thilthorpe etc getting a year more experienced.

Simple fact is they have just as little currency as we do right now.
Adelaide have this year's first rounder, which is much more than Port. Adelaide could bundle together something pretty tasty for Gold Coast's pick (Port's first, 6-7) - which Port can't do - then on trade that pick along with a future first.

That's probably the best scenario for St Kilda, but they won't have a choice as only a player not in Adelaide's best 22 would want to go to St Kilda, possibly Crouch or Butts or Berry - you can't make a Rachele leave unless they want to - so don't bother ask. Butts would be a good pick up for Saints. Butts and pick 6 for NWM.

Adelaide are only in it to keep Port honest though, this is a fait accompli t for Port.

Be fantastic if something could be worked out but I can’t see it happening.
Our main deal this year will be to keep Butters at the club.
No. NWM is our main deal this year.

NWM could be the best player on our list next year and committed for pretty much life.

Letting him slide and worrying about Butters is soft.

Like to know how you come up with next year will be the year?
I personally expect us to do worse next year than this year.
From what I can gather it’s better for us if we are getting this sorted out this year before he becomes a uncontracted player?

Would absolutely tell him to get his best offer and let’s talk about it at the end of the year.

3 first round picks and we move on.

I am very confident he stays but let’s sort it out at the end of the year.

Because Port can, and i believe already implied, that even though he is a restricted free agent and contract finished 2026, they will match any offer made which would result in a trade having to take place so it wouldn't be just a 1st round compensation pick but a lot more. It makes no sense to trade butters this season knowing that fact.

Nah, our main deal is bring nas to our club which will aid our bid to retain Butters.
