When Castricum and Gordon are out, you're talking about a very short list. And of course half of those guys in the 190cm+ bracket are pretty much new to TAC Cup footy. Their backline will be giving away quite a bit of height, so it'll be interesting to watch how they counteract that.

You can see why they chose the tall 19 yr olds that were available to them. Imagine if they didnt have McMahon or Taffin!!! McMahon will have to shoulder most of the ruckwork, we saw on Sunday that those shorter guys tended to get jumped all over when they went into the ruck.

The other issue is that Castricum, when he plays, will have to be spend plenty of time in the ruck for them, and the kid doesn't have any chance of getting drafted as a ruckman.

He's shown some promise as a KPP, it'd be disappointing if he missed out altogether due to not getting enough minutes where he plays best.

chargers have showed some good signs after there two practice matches one today against northern at vic park. northern just getting the jump in the first quarter but chargers responded game was about level half way through the 2nd quarter good signs with purcell leading the way and ball magnet gaff quietly racking up possesions, but with most of there A-grade players playing APS it will be hard to see them competing this year. Tough year for chargers. Look out for Seb Henderson show some real toe and great courage to take on and break lines big year for him.

umm lello hard to explain hard worker just needs to fix some things up he got 14+ beep so he revving to go. mmm hes picked up sum pace but yeh just needs to fix things up.

I think it's going to be a hard year for them.

I just don't think they're going to have the consistent performers that have pushed them up the ladder in previous years. The year they won the flag they had guys like Batsanis and Kelly who were ultra consistent, and then good young crew led by Andy Otten. There just isn't that balance this year.

also while im on this thread what is gordon like as a player? i used to play with him and he used to be pretty good as a ruck and used to play a bit on the wing

Last year unstoppable midfield all the boys down there keep thinking about last year Gotch, Shuey, Strauss, Lisle, Clarke Sibosado, Hanneberry.but have to move on and make own history. tough year with only one good sized ruckman. The 16s have some size so should be good for next year. With the chargers 17s winning the metro carnival last yr as 16s with Gaff and Gordon play metro. 17s at the club. Gaff, Gordon, Schneids, Ralph, Cassidy, Hawthorn, Karnezis, Crocker, Otten, Croft, and many more with great talent.

Suppose that's the question, I've only seen them in one praccy match so I'm hardly an expert on them, but it'd be fair to say how quickly those bottom agers step up this year is going to have a fair say as to where Oakleigh finish on the ladder.

Of those guys you named how many do you think will step up and contribute during say the first five rounds?

Counting from the list on their website, they've got 3 x 1990's, 25 x 1991's and 23 x 1992's on their list so they've got a decent spread of top agers and bottom agers.

Although he is a private school boy and will play his footy with Carey Grammar (probably a waste of time), Gaff is a massive prospect for Oakleigh. has a massive engine and work rate, and will rack them up on a regular basis

I think Oakleigh have had a few additions to the Vic U18 squad and have a sizable number in the U17 Metro academy so they've obviously got a bit of talent in the team. Just not much height!
