iirc I think they tend to come inside a lot more when you have had an extended period of dry weather.

I wish as a human you could somehow just make contact with the queen ant and just cut a deal, I'll drop off 2 kilos of sugar next to your nest every summer if you agree to keep your stupid workers the **** out of my kitchen pantry.
We don't tend to get ants inside here. I have the house sprayed externally annually- maybe that's why?
I do like your idea about the sugar deal, though. :D

Some stories with ants:

- was watching TV late one night in the dark, back then I would keep assorted snacks, lollies and what not in my top drawer in my bedroom. Thought "this would be a good time for a snack", opened the drawer and it was FULL of ants, had heart attack. Cleaned out drawer and threw out all the snacks, what a waste.

- came home to find a trail 2cm thick walked across our ****ing living room (carpet- dont think ive ever seen ants walk across carpet before this), to our bin in the kitchen, just having the times of their lives in there. Spent the next 30 mins cleaning them up.

- at my parents place. Thought "id love a packet of chips right about now"- went to pantry to get you know those mini snack packets of chips. THE ANTS WERE INSIDE THE SEALED PACKETS OF CHIPS.

- have also seen ants get into the fridge. Is quite rare, but I've seen a few.

If I keep the kitchen tidy with no scraps left out don't usually have too much of a problem with them, well apart from one summer where they were at plague proportions even as far as managing to get inside the fridge and into a sealed packet of steak

Fridges don't have a 100% seal, I don't reckon. Maybe when they're new but there are all sorts of little nooks and crannies for ants to sneak in, if you look carefully.

Yeah this one was a few years old before my new fancy one, getting into the unopened packet inside as well was the really surprise though!

They'd follow a trail of moisture- was it a glad wrapped pack or one of those heat sealed things?
I hate moths more than ants. Their little grubby babies chew through cardboard and plastic to get into everything and they even get into my tealeaves- the expensive T2 tealeaves- and they love any tea with fruit pieces. I've had to stop drinking that sort of tea cos the moths were everywhere. And they love nuts- especially honey cashews :(
Oh- and they even ate the chocolate off one of my chocolate liquorice logs!
