Ok our midfield is basically taken care of and we have a pretty good idea of who will be there in rd 1 but at either end of the ground there a still some question marks on who will be there come MARCH 20. So this is the time to predict and express your opinion on what our defence and attack will look like!

This is mine:

FORWARD:
HF: Pfeieffer Hartlett Houlihan
FF: Edwards Fevola Betts

ROTATING THROUGH: Cloke Russell Jackson Gibbs Thornton

Quite a slow forward line But i hope Eddie and Pfeiffer will be in and under with Fev just going about his buisness. I hope we have fev leading 35m out and making his short sharp leads and having a few shots. That way Edwards can play out of the square and use his 15m lead pace. Hopefully Hartlett can lead up and lurk between 35 and 70m out and take 7-10 marks. I would expect that betts will come in and out swapping into the midfield. Houlihan can go to newman and pfeiffer to mcmahon and play defensive type roles negating their run and hopefully kicking 3 between them. We need 7 goals between fev and edwards. Hopefully our midfield pace can get the ball forward quicker and honour EVERYONES leads, not just Fevs.!

Backline:

FB: Deledio/ Grigg Richardson/Setanta Brown/Thornton
HB: Pettifer/ Jamison Polak/ Waite Morton/ Scotland

Rotating through: Houlihan Carrazzo Bower Maybe anderson

Found it hard to do matchups as the tigers like us have no real CHF so i just put in polak although he is in doubt.
I have Setanta on Richo although i wouldnt be surprised if either of Waite or Jammo got the first go on him. I struggled to find a matchup for deledio but when he is down there i think grigg is the only one that could match his pace and strength but even that looks shakey. Nathan Brown is another difficult one but i have thornton on him aalthough that probably wont be the matchup. We are lacking a small defender and richmond have a potent forward line so our midfield will have a big job to do if we are going to restrict them to a score below 100.

How do you think we will line up

Deledio to me is a real worry, i would have had walker on him and he would have done a good job but he is now out.

I wouldnt discount bannister coming in to play on Deledio as he matches up fairly well on him.

Grigg i dont think is ready for Deledio who i think would be too quick.

Id play Setanta on Richo only if he is 100% right and ready to go.

Richo - Ohailpin (if he isnt right then id put Jamison/Waite on him)
Deledio - Bannister not that i think he has a future with us but he is the best match up.
Brown - Another tough one id like to go with Pfeiffer give him a challenge see how he goes.
Pettifer - Thornton, Pettifer can take a grab Thornton could compete well
Polak/Simmonds or whichever talls are down there - Waite/Jamison

Wouldnt worry about any of the other forwards too much

Grover I think with Setanta probably best not to put the pressure on him to take on Richo round 1. He needs to get some confidence and agro back after this weight loss (illness/wanted) and should put him on the 3rd best forward, leaving Jamison to get some experience on Richo and Thornton to cover the next best forward (Dildio).

Due to Setanta's illness & lack of conditioning I think Waite should be played on Richo.

FB: Deledio/ Bannister Polak/Setanta Brown/Jamison
HB: Pettifer/ Thornton Richo/ Waite Morton/ Scotland

We win the midfield battles & Edwards/hartlett/Kreuzer can cover for loss of Fisher goals should see us win the game.

I think this would be a good match up in theory, and i think Waite would do very well.

However, id believe that they would exploit this match up by leading Richo purely out of the square and keeping Waite pinned back in the defensive 50.

We would lose his creativity coming out of CHB and along the wings. That would be a massive win for Richmond to negate one of our best playmakers.

Give Richo to Jammo. He should be told to wear Richo like a glove and not worry about gathering the posessions or running off his man. Half a dozen spoils will be worth their weight in gold. Good learning curve aswell.

Agree. Give the young lad Jamison the big jobs.

I think we will see Jordan B in the side to shutdown Nathan B... just my thoughts anyway.

I'd like to see Bannister in the side :thumbsu:

I think we all know he's not a big part of the future, but he's one of our more experienced shutdown players nontheless. We need that down back this year.

I can't see why Bannister would not be part of our future plans. He's 25...hould be in his footballing prime. Tall and mobile, fills a niche run-with/shutdown role for us, and more often than not does a good job of it.

From all reports kept Cooney pretty quiet last week.

Might not get thirty touches and three goals every week, but I wish all of our guys were as accountable.

I do actually agree with you, as i said i would play Ohailpin on richo if he was 100%
i dont think he will be and i wouldnt be surprised if he was eased into the season through the ressies or at least from the bench.

However i dont think Thornton should be first option for deledio, i rally think bannister matches up fairly well on him. he is deceptively tall and not bad overhead Bannister.

Word from the Launch last night (from the players) is that Setanta is fine and ready to go. He lost the weight deliberately because he was having trouble carrying it injury wise.......to much bulk was a bit unnatural for his physique.

That's what two of the players said anyway. Whether its spin or not we'll see.:thumbsu:

I don't believe the story Setanta has lost weight and I think he won't play.

Thornton and Jamison kept Didak and Medhurst quiet last year, so I would play Bret on Brown and Michael on Deledio. Jamison is quick for a big man and would have a size advantage over Deledio in one on one contests. Simpson to play on Morton because he's good overhead and would run off him to sweep through the midfield to deliver to our forwards.

Simpson's intensity and run would be a good offensive match up for a Morton.

Grigg playing on the shorter Pettifer and running off him would also work to our advantage.

HF: Pettifer Richo Morton
HB: Grigg Waite Simpson
F: Brown Deledio Polak/Hughes
B: Thornton Jamison Bower

HF: Houlihan/Gibbs Hartlett Hadley(pushing up the ground as an extra onballer to put blocks on their taggers and create space for Edwards and Fevola to lead in to)
HB: Newman Polak McMahon
F: Edwards Fevola Betts
B: Bowden Thursfield King

Jammo on Richo for me.
What does everyone reckon about someone like Armfield playing on Deledio. Could be well suited, although probably a little short.

I think Bannister could be the man for Deledio. He has the size & the aerobic capacity to go with Deledio & has done some good shutdown jobs eg Chad Cornes, Brad Johnson. I also remember him doing a reasonable shut down job on an Eagles' player at Princes Park in 2004. I think the Eagles' player's name was Chris somebody (?).

I am puzzled at the title of this thread - why use Americanisms, rather than talk about attack and defence?

We have the best game in the world (I lived overseas for more than 10 years, and saw other codes - I can honestly say (almost) objectively that it is!). It has its own unique language, based in Australian idiom.

I hate to see this creeping Americanisation. Yes, I know a few commentators use "offensive" in the American way; or talk about someone being in "the quarterback role". But we should be proud of our distinctive vernacular, not let our game sound like a variation on gridiron.

I particularly loath how teams are labelled in the cartoony US style - the Carlton Blues, Hawthorn Hawks, etc. Official sites (yes, BF too) seem to be encouraging this, for some reason! Some teams (WCE, WB, etc) have official names like that (which is hokey enough), but for most it's the Carlton Football Club, nicknamed the Blues. To call them the Carlton Blues is like saying, "Here's my mate - James Jim".

Is it an appeal to children, to incorporate the nickname into the name? Do they think we can't cope with two names, all of a sudden?

Please let's fight this cultural cringe, we have to sound American to be cool, dumbing down and homogenisation of our fantastic game. Anything else I find truly offensive (in the Aussie sense!)
