There is a difference between being somewhat unsure about our selections and cracking the shits entirely. Surely Graeme Hadley has enough credit in the bank to sway us from the latter.

At the end of the day, we arent the ones who have watched hundreds of hours of junior football in the last year. Recruiters also have to factor in how good these players will be in 5 years time, not just how good they look on youtube now.

Exactly, and I wasn't cracking the shits about it ( trust me you would know if I had)

I just feel it was one very unusual draft for us is all, Hopefully it pays off for us down the track in 2 to 5 years time:thumbsu:

BTW Sam Docherty Is my Hubby's 2nd Cousin ( on his mothers side) and WILL be a gun mark my words . I have seen him play when he was younger and he was good then ( I think he was 10 or 11yrs can't remember anyway This guy will be a gun.

8- Billy Longer - Best ruckman in the draft
12- Sam Docherty - running defender with penetrating kick
29- Jordan Lisle - Tall KPP forward/defender with 3 years development under the belt
30- Elliot Yeo - supremely athletic defender/wingman
34- Dayne Zorko - talented mature small forward/mid with x-factor
47- Patrick Weardon - 191cm utility, solid skills and athleticism
70- Ben Hudson - mature ruck insurance

Pretty handy intake so far with the rookie draft to come.

It is nothing like I was thinking however I was more going on what BF and Emma Q twitter more than anything.

Putting everyone down like this TBD makes it all look much better. Would be the most varied intake for some time.

They must have alot of faith in the development of Bartlett, Polec, Green etc.

Looking forward to Hadley's review.:)

Anyone else a bit surprised not to see Waldhuter not picked up based on the BF hype? Worth a shot in the rookie draft? I wonder what recruiters didn't like about him?

I think this! I think GWS tried to sneak the extra mid in at 7 thinking we'd take tomlinson at 8 leaving them Longer. Snakey move by GWS, but we bit them on the tale tonight:D

Well, they now have a ton of ball-winners and clearance specialists....just nobody in the ruck to tap it to them now ;)

Just to clarify, who will be GWS's starting ruck from their current list?

Pretty happy with our drafting.

We needed more class coming out of the back half, Yeo & Docherty add that. Longer will be a great ruckman in time and will form nicely with Leuey, particularly if he continues to show signs that he can kick 1-2 goals in the forward line. Weardon was an interesting one, but I trust Hadley immensely so he must have seen something that no one else has. As I am led to believe, the recruiters would have been watching all of these kids since they were 15-16yo's, so they must have faith in the picks.

In summary, I'm stoked with our early picks & have faith in Hadley for Yeo & Weardon which we don't know much about.

As for our rookie drafting, surely we will look at one of those available KPP's, probably a mature aged ruckman and possibly another mid....hopefully John McKenzie from Tassie!

True true. The voice of reason. I'm just a little sad we didn't come away with any of those super classy mids we've been licking our lips about for so long. I want somebody to blame...and it's Gubby! Ha ;)

Maybe their will be a midfilder in the rookie draft that we can get that turns out to be the next Tom Rockliff.

Are there any pictures of the top ten up on stage in there new clubs jersey? Any video's as well? Also any piccies of the draftees in there new clubs jersey in general?

Two things caught my eye

“Elliot Yeo is a raw young wingman who has a lot of development ahead of him but we just think there’s tremendous upside with him - we actually had him rated inside 20 so to get him at 30 was a fantastic result.”

If that's how Hadley rates him, then I'm excited!

“We’ve done probably better than we thought we would.”

Kerr - You are the man!

NB: Hope I still feel this way in two years time!

Sounds like Longer was just too good not to draft.

Not at all. Recruiters are there only to get the best player that suits their club at every pick, would be some very pissed off coaches if recruiters were taking players just to spite another team.

I believe GWS simply went best available. I think thy missed one in Longer. We win. And love our Docherty selection.

Well put TBD...I posted at the time we were doing some early drafting in Trade Week.

What Kerr said on the radio was he was hearing all day that GWS weren't taking Longer and he was hoping like hell that they didn't. We rated him in the top 5 players in the draft and had no hesitation at all picking him. Absloutely wrapped with the choice he was. He also went on to say he would be played as a ruck (not a ruck/forward) and that when he is ready that they will basically play both him and Leuey 60%/40% game time. So he is not here as a back up - he will play in time.

Thought that was interesting with the ruck split time. Means we have either Longer or Bergs resting forward though, so both will need to work on these areas of the game. If our rucks are going to be spending that much time up forward, they need to be able to play half decent as a forward target.

It would be interesting to see Brisbane's phantom draft or whatever rating system they use. Maybe a chance now with the recent increased transparency at the club.

I also think the other thing we may look over is although we didn't pick up a midfielder as such - we have drafted and traded for player that will aid in our midfiled being stronger. The inclusion of Zorko could push Banfield up and Docherty could push Hanley up. Also we have a few players that haven't played or played very little -Bartlett, Polec, Green, Beams etc. On reflection now - i am feeling really good about this draft.
