DEFENDERS will be harassed by Richmond small forwards Jake King and Robin Nahas for at least two more seasons.

The pair today signed contract extensions that will keep them at Punt Rd until the end of 2013.

King, 25, kicked 25 goals this season after reinventing himself as a forward, while 23-year-old partner in crime Nahas kicked 29 goals and laid 94 tackles in a breakout season.

“Jake has become a very important player for us, particularly with his forward pressure and his ability to impact the scoreboard,” Richmond football manager Craig Cameron said.

Appears that our traditional game against Carlton to open the season has been locked in for 2012 at least.

McLachlan also indicated the Carlton-Richmond Thursday night season-opener was likely to remain in 2012, despite pushes from other clubs and elsewhere within the AFL to promote a more competitive match-up to start the new season.

''It's a good franchise and I don't see any reason to get rid of it just for the sake of it. It hasn't been the greatest contest in the past but that will come with time,'' he said.

Richmond Football Club has confirmed it will wipe about $1million off if its debt this financial year thanks to the establishment of the Fighting Tiger Fund.
In keeping with the Club’s plan to split money raised between reducing debt and investing in football, the Club will also invest significantly in meeting football department needs - most notably around the critical upgrade of the Punt Road Oval surface.
When completed, this state-of-the-art surface will support a high-performance program that will ensure no stone is left unturned in the preparation and development of the playing group.

Great to see and hopefully this continues on until all the debt has been erased.

Re: Tigers to trade pick 14 for GWS pick 15 + Morris

In its first deal of the 2011 trade period, Richmond has snared Steven Morris, the son of dual Tiger premiership player Kevin Morris.

The Tigers secured the services of the mature-age recruit from SANFL club West Adelaide via a deal with Greater Western Sydney.

Under rules introduced for the fledgling AFL club, GWS had claims on Morris, as a player, who had previously nominated for the National Draft.

Maric Joins Tigers

Richmond has secured the services of ruckman Ivan Maric, as part of a three-way deal involving Adelaide and St Kilda.

The Tigers’ second round pick (selection 37) will go to St Kilda as part of the agreement, and Saints’ youngster Tom Lynch will head to the Crows.

Maric, 25 years of age, 200cm and 102kg, was taken by Adelaide at pick 40 in the 2004 National Draft, made his AFL debut in 2006, and has played 77 games in six seasons.

Re: Tigers to trade pick 14 for GWS pick 15 + Morris

Richmond has rounded off the 2011 AFL trade week with a last-minute exchange of draft picks with the Gold Coast Suns.

The Tigers traded the round one compensatory selection they received from Adelaide this time last year, as part of the Richard Tambling deal, to Gold Coast.

In return, they gained a first round selection at pick 26 in the 2011 National Draft, and a second round compensatory selection that the Suns acquired last year from Port Adelaide, which can be used from 2012 onwards.

The specific details of this second round compensatory pick will be determined by where Port Adelaide finishes in the 2012 season.

Richmond can activate this selection at any time until the end of 2014 season.

Tigers ditch Darwin

EXCLUSIVE

RICHMOND has placed football ahead of finances and foregone next season's contracted game in Darwin, having on-sold the game to Melbourne in a decision which will cost the club an estimated $500,000.
In a move certain to prove a big winner among the Tiger faithful - not to mention the football department - Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale confirmed yesterday the club had negotiated an exit agreement with the AFL upon learning the Demons harboured long-term plans for a presence in the Northern Territory.

I know a lot of people will be happy with this news. The more MCG games the better.

Richmond defender Will Thursfield has announced his retirement from AFL football.

The 25-year-old, whose contract with the Tigers expired at the end of the 2011 season, has decided to call it quits after a 77-game league career.

“There are some other avenues in my life I’m keen to pursue, and I just felt the time was right to step away from AFL football,” Thursfield said.

“I’m proud to have played the game at the highest level over the past seven seasons, and have enjoyed my involvement at Richmond, but I’m now looking forward to taking up these opportunities.”

Promising young Richmond defender, Jake Batchelor, has been rewarded for his impressive debut season at Tigerland in 2011 with a contract extension.

Batchelor, who made 16 senior appearances, and averaged 12.6 disposals per game, has signed a new deal, binding him to the Club at least until the end of the 2013 season.

He joins fellow first-year pair Reece Conca and Brad Helbig, along with second-year player, Dylan Grimes, who have all made long-term commitments to the Tigers in recent months.
